SMU Sweeps Women's Swimming & Diving Awards

Mustangs’ Lindborg, Wainman claim weekly honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –   SMU senior Nathalie Lindborg and freshman Madeline Wainman have been recognized with weekly swimming and diving honors by the American Athletic Conference for their recent performances.
 
Lindborg was named American Female Swimmer of the Week after she turned in a number of impressive performances against some of the nation’s top teams. Most recently, she took second place in the 100-yard freestyle (50.35) and sixth in the 50 freestyle (23.30) in a double dual meet against No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 11 Tennessee. She also registered four top-two finishes in a dual meet against No. 21 LSU as she took first in the 100 freestyle (50.27), second in the 50 (23.34) and was part of second-place entries in the 200 medley relay (1:43.18) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.84).
 
Wainman was chosen as Female Diver of the Week after she led the SMU contingent in the Tennessee Diving Invitational, the results of which were used to score the diving portion of the dual meet against LSU and was the Mustangs’ top scorer on the springboard in the double dual against Texas A&M and Tennessee. She finished third on the one-meter board and fifth on the three-meter board against the Aggies and Volunteers. She was 15th of 44 on the one-meter board, 26th of 45 in the three-meter board and 22nd of 30 on the platform at the Tennessee Diving Invitational.

AROUND THE AMERICAN
·         The Cincinnati men scored a 182-118 dual meet win against Miami (Ohio) as the Bearcats registered 11 event wins on the day. Chris Bready won the 500 and 1,000 freestyles, while Eitan Holder took first in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Ryan DePietro won the 400 individual medley and the 200 butterfly. Cincinnati travels to Rochester, Michigan, for a two-day meet against Oakland, Kenyon and Olivet. Jan. 16-17.
 
·         The Cincinnati women fell to Miami (Ohio), 188-111. Jackie Keire continues to pace the Bearcats as she took first in the 100 and 200 freestyles against the RedHawks. The Bearcats face Oakland, Kenyon and Olivet Jan. 16-17.
 
·         UConn’s men’s and women’s teams are back in action Jan. 24, when they host Boston College in a dual meet.
 
·         East Carolina’s men’s and women’s teams return to the pool Jan. 17, with a dual meet against Old Dominion in Greenville, North Carolina.
 
·         Houston’s women’s team is off until a four-way meet at LSU Jan. 30-31.
 
·         SMU’s men’s team, which fell to LSU in a Jan. 3 dual meet, is back in action Jan. 16 at Texas A&M.
 
·         SMU’s women’s team fell to No. 4 Texas A&M (172-112) and No. 11 Tennessee (204-83) in a double dual meet in College Station, Texas. The Mustangs are back in action Jan. 30-31 against Texas and Arizona in Austin, Texas.
 
·         Tulane’s women’s team was paced by Mia Schachter, who won the 100 freestyle in a double dual meet against Miami (Fla.) and Rutgers. The Green Wave competes next against North Texas in a Jan. 24 dual meet in New Orleans.
 
·         The American Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships will take place Feb. 18-21 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
