The American Today: Pirates Top Golden Hurricane; Win Second Straight League Game

East Carolina 77, Tulsa 68

Four players reached double figure scoring for East Carolina in a 77-68 win over Tulsa Wednesday evening at the Reynolds Center. It was the second-straight American Athletic Conference road win for the Pirates. Jada Payne led all scorers with 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, while I’Tiana Taylor recorded a game-high 13 rebounds. Mariah Turner and Teanna Reid scored 14 points apiece to lead the Hurricane.

Memphis 41, Cincinnati 38

Memphis defeated Cincinnati, 41-38, Wednesday evening at Elma Roane Fieldhouse in a tough defensive matchup for both teams. In a game where the Tigers’ three leading scorers combined for just 13 points, it was a double-double from junior forward Brianna Wright (11 points, 14 rebounds) that helped Memphis take the win. Ana Owens led the Bearcats with 12 points in the loss, including 2-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Bianca Quisenberry added a team-high 11 rebounds for Cincinnati.

No. 2/2 UConn 92, Temple 58

No. 2/2 UConn's post players led the way in a 92-58 win over Temple Wednesday evening at Gampel Pavilion. Morgan Tuck scored 24 points and Breanna Stewart added 18 for the Huskies, who improved to 15-1 and 5-0 in The American with the win. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds. Feyonda Fitzgerald led four players in double figure scoring for the Owls (7-11, 3-2) with 16 points, 12 of those coming in the second half. Erica Covile recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

RV/25 USF 82, SMU 59

Courtney Williams posted 27 points and 11 rebounds and Tamara Taylor tied her career-high with six 3-pointers to help RV/25 USF defeat SMU, 82-59, Wednesday night at the Sun Dome. With eight straight wins, USF (14-3, 5-0) is one more away from tying the program’s top streak. Taylor finished with 18 points while Alisia Jenkins posted her 11th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Alicia Froling made 8-of-15 field goal attempts and added seven rebounds for the Mustangs (4-12, 0-5).
