The American Today: Macy Picks Up 200th Career Win



In a night that saw three American women's basketball teams in action, East Carolina head coach Heather Macy picked up her 200th career win when the Pirates defeated SMU on the road.

East Carolina 67, SMU 49

East Carolina (ECU) head coach Heather Macy picked up her 200th-career victory and I’Tiana Taylor posted her fifth double-double of the season as ECU won its fourth straight game, a 67-49 victory over SMU, Wednesday evening at Moody Coliseum. Taylor shot 7-for-10 from the field and scored 16 points with a game-high 10 rebounds while Jada Payne scored led all scorers with 17 points. The Mustangs were led by Destynee Hives-McCray, who led the team in scoring for the second consecutive game with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

RV/RV USF 71, Houston 55

RV/RV USF used a season-high seven assists from Shalethia Stringfield to defeat Houston, 71-55, Wednesday night at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Bulls outshot the Cougars .526 to .361 and outrebounded their opponent for the 14th time this season. Courtney Williams recorded her fourth consecutive 20-point game and ninth of the season, scoring 24 for USF along with a career-high tying six steals. Alisia Jenkins added her 12th double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Alecia Smith scored a season-high 22 points for Houston on 6-for-7 shooting from 3-point range.



No. 2/2 UConn 100, UCF 45

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had a game-high 23 points, her third 20-point performance of the season, as No. 2/2 UConn won their 16th straight game on Wednesday. The Huskies topped UCF, 100-45, at CFE Arena in Orlando. UConn senior Kiah Stokes posted her third straight game and fourth in the last five with seven blocks. The Knights fell behind 10-2 in the opening minutes and shot a season-low 22.5 percent (16-for-71) for the night. Sophomore Zykira Lewis paced three Knights in double figure scoring with 15 points. She was joined by freshmen Aliyah Gregory (11) and Fifi Ndour (10).
