UCF 76, Tulsa 70
Backed by a pair of 20-point performances from underclassmen, UCF kicked off 2015 with a 76-70 win over Tulsa Saturday afternoon at CFE Arena.
After falling behind 10 points in the first half and withstanding a late run from the Golden Hurricane, the Knights picked up the win to start conference play 2-0 for the first time in four years. Sophomore Zykira Lewis scored a game-high 25 points for UCF while freshman Aliyah Gregory fell one point shy of her career high with 21 points. Ashley Clark led Tulsa with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Houston 63, SMU 45 - WATCH FULL GAME REPLAY ON THE AMERICAN DIGITAL NETWORK
A second half rally lifted Houston over SMU, 63-45, Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum in American Athletic Conference action. Tyler Gilbert led the Cougars and set a career-high with 18 points in the win.
Down nine points early in the second period, Houston mounted a 16-2 run to take their first lead of the game. The Cougars shot 60.7 percent (17-for-28) in the second stanza and held SMU to just 24.1 percent (7-for-29) shooting. Alicia Froling led the Mustangs in scoring for the third time this season with 13 points. Destynee Hives-McCray chipped in a team-leading 11 rebounds for SMU.
Temple 81, Cincinnati 64
Temple shot over 58% in the second half while junior Erica Covile went 9-9 in the frame, as the Owls grabbed an 81-64 win on the road at Cincinnati Saturday afternoon. The victory improves Temple to 3-0 in the American and 7-8 overall, while the Bearcats fell to 3-11 and 0-3 in the conference.
Covile finished with 21 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for her fourth-consecutive double-double. She was 9-10 from the field in the game after starting 0-1 in the first half. Jasmine Whitfield paced Cincinnati with 20 points and seven rebounds.
