East Carolina Upsets No. 25/25 USF

East Carolina upset No. 25/25 USF on Sunday, 65-64, in the Pirates' Play4Kay game at Minges Coliseum. The victory was East Carolina’s fourth in a row and first against a team ranked in the Associated Press’ top 25 poll since defeating No. 24 NC State, 89-82, on December 9, 2007 in Greenville.

Jada Payne paced the Pirates and scored 15 of her team-high 20 points in the first half. Jasmine Phillips added her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards while Abria Trice chipped in 16 points. The Bulls got a game-high 34 points from Courtney Williams. The junior scored 26 of her 34 points in the second half as USF cut a 15-point deficit down to one with 19 seconds remaining.

Alisia Jenkins recorded her 17th double-double of the season for the Bulls, scoring 12 points and adding 15 rebounds, making it the first game USF has lost when getting a double-double from Jenkins. The Pirates outscored the Bulls 38-24 in the paint and 16-9 off the bench, but USF held a 19-12 advantage in second-chance points.
