Woods, Kay Earn Weekly Baseball Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 1.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JoMarcos Woods • Sr. • OF • UCF
Woods hit .417 and drove in four runs in a 3-1 week for No. 15 UCF that included a pair of victories over No. 24/18 Mississippi. In Friday’s win over the Rebels, Woods doubled to lead off the eighth with the Knights trailing 4-2. The Orlando native came around to score in a two-run frame that tied the game before driving in the winning run on a walk-off single in the ninth. For the year, Woods is hitting .400 with a .471 on-base percentage and five runs batted in.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Anthony Kay • So. • LHP • UConn
Kay tossed eight shutout innings while allowing just two hits and two walks, striking out eight to pick up the win in the Huskies’ Saturday victory at No. 21 Kennesaw State. UConn took two of three from the Owls, who made an NCAA Super Regional appearance in 2014. For the year, the Stony Brook, New York, native is 1-1 with a 0.78 earned run average and second in The American with 24 strikeouts.
