Tulsa Tops Missouri State, Advances to WNIT Second Round

Ashley Clark and Kelsee Grovey each scored 22 points to lead Tulsa to a 78-72 win over Missouri State (MSU) Friday night in WNIT first round action at JQH Arena in Springfield, Mo.  The Hurricane moved to 18-13 on the season while MSU concluded the year with an 18-14 mark.
 
Tulsa will  next take on Eastern Michigan in the second round of the WNIT.  The game will be played at the Donald W. Reynolds Center this Sunday, March 22nd at 6 p.m. ET.

Clark had her 11th career double-double and seventh this season as she also recorded 13 rebounds.  Mariah Turner tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, while Kadan Brady added 11 points, and Erika Wakefield scored eight points and had six assists.

Missouri State was led by Tyonna Small with 29 points while Liza Fruendt added 10.  Aubrey Buckley had six rebounds and Kenzie Williams dished out six assists.
 
Tulsa battled back and outscored Missouri State, 26-18, to take a 59-57 lead at the 8:05 mark in the second half.  There were four more lead changes and three more tied scores, but the Hurricane took an eight-point lead with 22-seconds left to help put the game away.
 
Tulsa shot 46-percent from the field, 43-percent from behind the arc and 76-percent from the charity stripe, while Missouri State shot 36-percent from the field, 40-percent from 3-point range and 62-percent from the free -hrow line.
