NC State 69, East Carolina 65
East Carolina's 2014-15 campaign came to an end on Sunday with a 69-65 loss to North Carolina State in the second round of the WNIT at Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum. Jada Payne scored 19 points on 7-for-15 shooting and added six rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Jasmine Phillips added 14 points, five boards and three assists off the bench, Shae Nelson contributed 11 points and I’Tiana Taylor pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. The Pirates combined for 21 assists and forced 22 turnovers, marking the 20th time opponents committed 20 or more in a game this season. The Wolfpack were led by Miah Spencer’s 26 points. Jennifer Mathurin posted a double-double comprising 10 points and game-high 14 rebounds.
Eastern Michigan 69, Tulsa 59
Tulsa cut a 16-point deficit to two points in the second half, but couldn’t manage to pull out a victory as the Eastern Michigan (EMU) Eagles advanced to the third round of the WNIT with a 69-59 victory over the Hurricane Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Eagles led from start to finish and improved to 24-12 on the season with the win. Ashley Clark had team-highs of 18 points and eight rebounds for Tulsa, while Mariah Turner added 16 points and eight boards. Eastern Michigan were led by three players in double-figure scoring with Janay Morton and Cha Sweeney tallying 18 points apiece and Jamaica Bucknor chipping in 12. Trailing by 10 at halftime (30-20), Tulsa opened the second half on a 12-6 run to cut the EMU lead to four points at 36-32. The Eagles responded by scoring the next five points and took a 41-32 lead with 12:42 left in the contest.
