Breanna Stewart had 25 points and Morgan Tuck added 24 to lead UConn to an 81-58 win over Maryland Sunday night in the Final Four semifinal at Amalie Arena. With the win, the Huskies advanced to the national championship for the third consecutive year. Top seeded UConn will face No. 1 seed Notre Dame for the title on Tuesday (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) in a rematch of last season's championship.
The Huskies have won nine titles overall and a victory on Tuesday would tie head coach Geno Auriemma with UCLA men's coach John Wooden for the most all-time with 10. It would also be the second three-peat for UConn, which won three straight championships from 2002-04.
Maryland trailed by three midway through the first half, 22-19, before UConn scored seven straight points to make it a 10-point game. Tuck scored the final five points of the stanza to give the Huskies a double-digit lead heading into the break.
The loss by Maryland ended a school-record 28-game winning streak. The Terps were led by Brionna Jones' 14 points and 12 from Lexie Brown.
