Temple's Enechionyia, Rose Sweep Weekly Awards



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors following the opening weekend of the 2016-17 men’s basketball season.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Obi Enechionyia · Jr. · F · Temple · Springfield, Va.
Enechionyia was named the most outstanding player of the NIT Season Tip-Off after averaging a double-double in Temple’s victories over No. 25/rv Florida State and No. 19/17 West Virginia. The junior had 16 points and eight rebounds as the Owls knocked off the Seminoles, 89-86, on Thanksgiving. The following day, Enechionyia recorded 22 points and 12 rebounds, helping Temple hold off the Mountaineers, 81-77. The double-double was Enechionyia’s second of the season.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Quinton Rose · Fr. · G · Temple · Rochester, N.Y.
The freshman collected his second accolade of the season after leading Temple with a career-best 26 points in the Owls’ 89-86 win over No. 25/rv Florida State in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Rose came off the bench to post 12 points against No. 19/17 West Virginia, his third consecutive game in double figures.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Dedric Lawson · So. · G/F · Memphis · Memphis, Tenn.
Lawson scored an American Athletic Conference-best 35 points in Memphis’ 100-92 win over Iowa, tying an American record with 15 made field goals on just 22 attempts. Lawson has posted double-doubles in five of the Tigers’ six games this season.
 
Kyle Washington · Jr. · F · Cincinnati · Champlin, Minn.
Washington led Cincinnati to a pair of victories, averaging a team-high 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds. Washington recorded his fourth double-double in five games in Cincinnati’s 70-55 win over Samford  with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and 12 rebounds.
 
Jalen Adams · So. · G · UConn · Roxbury, Mass.
Adams was named to the Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the tournament in scoring (28.7 ppg), assists (7.3 apg) and field goals (36). Adams posted a career-high 34 points against Oklahoma State before missing out on a triple-double by one rebound the following day.
 
Kentrell Barkley · So. · G · East Carolina · Durham, N.C.
Barkley averaged 16.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as East Carolina went 2-1 last week. Barkley recorded 20 points and 11 rebounds against Mercer, his second straight game scoring 20 or more points.
 
Devin Davis · So. · F · Houston · Indianapolis
Davis helped Houston to the Gulf Coast Showcase title, averaging 11.0 points and 8.3 rebounds as the Cougars went 4-0 on the week. Davis had the game-winning layup in the championship game and then followed up the effort with an 18-point, nine-rebound performance to close the week against Cornell.
