Memphis' Shaq Goodwin

Memphis’ Shaq Goodwin is known as “The Mayor”. Coach Pastner is looking for the senior to lead the Tigers. “He is a big teddy bear.  I call him the mayor and he is an energy giver, not a taker. We are proud that he represents the university the way he does”. The Mayor is a good nickname for a guy who boasts that his secret talent is “making people smile” and “turning frowns upside down”.

On top of his talents off the court Goodwin is having a solid season on the court for the Tigers. He leads the league in scoring (19.5 points) and blocked shots (2.1 blocks) in league play. Memphis currently sits at 4-4 in the conference standings and in order for Memphis to make a deep run in the postseason, Goodwin plans on keeping things simple.

“My biggest thing is mentally, I’ve let off court things distract me from the on court so this off season I tried to prepare myself for all distractions and to stay focused.  People who watch the game of basketball will see players have a bad day but what they don’t see is things off the court that fester. So mentally I am getting my priorities together so hopefully my life will be a lot simpler.”
