Women's Soccer: Week 9 Sunday Recap



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UConn, ECU, and SMU picked up league wins today, while Memphis and Cincinnati 21/18 finished in a scoreless draw in double-overtime. UCF 8/9 improved to 10-1-1 on the year and extended its unbeaten streak to 11 matches.

 Highlights
UConn defeated Houston 3-2 in overtime Sunday afternoon. The game-winner came off a corner kick from Vivien Beil that Sabrina Toole put in the net on a header. Houston opened the scoring at the 14 minute mark. The Huskies equalized the score just 3:55 minutes later. UConn took a 2-1 halftime lead, but the Coogs knotted the score at 2-2 off a rebound at 69:26.
 
Memphis and Cincinnati 21/18 played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw Sunday at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats and Tigers are tied in conference standings with 14 points each.
 
ECU snapped a five-match losing streak in its 1-0 win over Tulsa Sunday. Courtney Cash’s lone goal in the 29th minute marked her team-best fourth helper of the season.
 
SMU picked up its first American Athletic Conference win, 2-0, at Temple Sunday afternoon. Allie Thornton scored first in the 47th minute, while freshman Katia Novi recorded her first career goal in the 76th minute to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage.
 
UCF 8/9 topped LSU 4-0 at the LSU Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Knights took the lead in the 31st minute on a goal from Stefanie Sanders. Carrie Lawrence extended the lead at the 55:04 mark as her corner kick sailed in the net to give UCF a 2-0 advantage. Kayla Adamek added to the tally less than a minute later. Madison Murnin scored at 63:01 for the final 4-0 mark.
