Women’s Volleyball: Temple and Tulsa earn Thursday night wins

Highlights
 
- Tulsa is back to a winning record (14-13, 8-7 American Athletic Conference) after defeating UConn for the second time this season, capturing its third straight win. Emily Thorson and Rachel Moore combined for 19 kills for the Golden Hurricane, as Moore averaged a .333 hitting percentage. UConn led 58-37 in kills and amounted a higher hitting percentage than its opponent in the loss. Iman McGary led the Huskies with a match-high 21 kills and a .302 hitting percentage. She added 18 digs to earn a double-double.
 
- The second and third-place teams in the conference collided on Thursday night, as it took five sets to decide the winner. The match came down to the final two points in the fifth set, as Temple completed the come-from-behind victory with back-to-back blocks to earn the season sweep over SMU on the road.

Both teams are still in contention for the league title, as Temple is 11-4 in league play and SMU is 12-3. Four out of five of the sets were decided in the final four points. Three Temple players reached double-digit kills, as Dana Westfield led with 15. Izzy Rapacz had 14 kills and eight blocks, while Janine Simmons and Iva Deak had seven stuffs each.

SMU notched 15 team blocks and was led by Katie Hegarty and Lauren Mills who put down 19 and 18 kills, respectively. Kelly Brunstein had 12 kills with just two errors for a .435 hitting percentage. Both sides’ setters played well too, as Kendall Patterson assisted on 60 kills for the Mustangs, while Kyra Coundourides had 54 assists for the Owls.
