Hosting their first NCAA Tournament, the Shockers became the second American Athletic Conference team to win a national tournament first round match after sweeping Big South champion Radford. Wichita State advances to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament and will take on Missouri tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET. The winner will advance to the Sweet 16. Tonight’s match featured a school-record crowd of 7,257 at Koch Arena.
Wichita State hit .440 in the victory, while holding the Highlanders to hitting .182. Abbie Lehman led the offense with 14 kills and no attacking errors for a .609 hitting percentage. Four Shockers joined her in hitting over .400, as Mikaela Raudsepp (13) and Alex Koon (10) also reached double figure kills. Setter Emily Hiebert paced the offense with 42 assists, while libero Giorgia Civita had 15 digs in the back row. In their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance, Wichita State enters the Second Round on a 21-match and 32-set winning streak, sweeping 10 consecutive opponents.
