Tulane Drops Grambling, Advances to Third Round of WNIT

For the second straight year, the Tulane women's basketball team (18-14) will be making a third round appearance in the WNIT, after dispatching Grambling State on Sunday afternoon at home, 66-49.

The Green Wave's offense was on full display inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse, recording 18 assists on 25 made field goals, as four different players finished in double-figures for the first time since Dec. 21.

Kolby Morgan led the way with 15 points. Both Leslie Vorpahl (13 points, eight assists) and Harlyn Wyatt (11 points and seven rebounds) flirted with double-doubles. Courtnie Latham rounded out the group with 12 points.

Tulane's offense got off to a hot start, tying its highest shooting percentage in a first quarter this season by knocking down 64.3-percent of its shots (9-of-14), earning a 23-15 lead.

The Wave's defense then put its stamp on the second period, as Tulane outscored Grambling 15-4, tying its fewest points allowed in a quarter all season. When the Green Wave went into their locker room at half, they held a 38-19 lead with 14 assists on 15 made field goals.

Tulane did not let up in the second half, building a lead as large as 24 points, 58-34, after a Morgan three-pointer with 7:58 remaining. In all, eight different Tulane players registered points by the final buzzer.

For the third time this year, the Wave defense held its opponent to under 50 points. In addition, Tulane remained unbeaten at home in the WNIT all-time, improving to 7-0.
