PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 3.
Offensive Player of the Week
Julie Gavorski * Sr. * F * Cincinnati
Gavorski brought Cincinnati back from a 0-1 deficit scoring two goals in the second half of its 2-1 victory over Northwestern
RV/21. She recorded her 20
th career goal as a Bearcat and is fifth all-time in game-winning goals with nine.
Defensive Player of the Week
Olivia Gauthier * Jr. * D * Memphis
Gauthier was the anchor to the Memphis
RV/24 defense that allowed zero goals and earned two shutout wins in its two matches this weekend. She played in all 180 minutes for the Tigers and was named to the Music City Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Michelle Newhouse * Gr. * ECU
Newhouse had a career high seven saves against Old Dominion and a total of nine saves for the weekend, while not allowing a goal in the last 293 minutes between the posts. She has recorded three consecutive shutouts on the year and has helped ECU to its best start in program history (4-0-1).
Rookie of the Week
Madison Murnin * Fr. * F * UCF
Murnin’s first collegiate goal was the game-winner for UCF
24/- against Arizona
RV/- on Sept. 1. She logged a total of 79 minutes over the weekend to help the Knights with its 2-0 sweep at the Sun Devil Desert Classic and its fourth straight contest win.
Weekly Honor Roll
Dina Orschmann * Fr. * F * UCF
Orschmann led the Knights with three points in two games, aiding the squad to a perfect weekend at the Sun Devil Desert Classic.
Rachel Ashworth Shepard * RS-Jr. * GK * Memphis
Ashworth Shepard made five saves and recorded two shutouts in 180 minutes of action this weekend. She now has four shutouts this season and has played every minute for the Tigers.
Vanessa Valadez * RS-Jr. * F * SMU
Valadez scored two goals for SMU
22/RV to help lift the Mustangs to its 4-1 win against Sam Houston State.
Morgan Basileo * So. * GK * Temple
Basileo earned her first two career starts and recorded one shutout and 11 saves over the weekend in victories over Rider (3-1) and Mount St. Mary’s (2-0).
Emma Wilkins * Fr. * M * Temple
Wilkins had two goals in Temple’s 3-1 win Thursday over Rider and an assist in the Owls’ 2-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s Sunday.
