Highlights
- No. 23 Wichita State (7-1) won its seventh consecutive match with a 3-0 win over Duquesne at the Nike Classic. The sweep was the Shockers’ fifth of the year, as Wichita State hit a .343 with 10 total blocks. Tabitha Brown had a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs with a .579 hitting percentage and two blocks. But the Shockers' undefeated season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to No. 14 Oregon.
- SMU (5-3) has won five of their last six after starting off 2-0 this weekend. The Mustangs had a 3-1 victory over UTSA to start off the Texas State Invitational. Three Mustangs posted double-doubles in the win. Lauren Mills fueled the offense with 27 kills and added 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Her 27 kills tied the school’s record for all-time kills in a single match. Kendall Patterson also earned her fourth double-double, registering 36 assists and 16 digs. Brittany Adams had 14 kills and 15 digs. The Mustangs concluded the night in an exciting fashion, taking Texas State to five sets and defeating them, 16-14 in the fifth. SMU had 18 blocks in the match, while Texas State had 15. Mills had 15 kills, 19 digs and eight total blocks to earn her fifth double-double this year. Two teammates joined her in recording a double-double, while the team hit .300 or higher through four out of five of the sets.
- Tulane is 6-2 after handing Southern Miss (7-3) its third loss of the season. Alexis Silver had 12 kills with a .320 hitting percentage. The Green Wave have won six of their last seven.
- Temple (4-3) picked up its third-straight 3-0 win after taking down Boston College at home in its only match of the weekend. Izzy Rapacz had 11 kills with no errors for a .611 hitting percentage with three blocks. Irem Asci added a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
- Kenya Cason hit in the double digits for the third consecutive match to lead the Huskies (5-2) to a 3-0 win over Albany to start off the weekend. Tosin Adeniyi added 11 kills and a .733 hitting percentage in the victory. However, the Huskies ended the night falling to Villanova in three sets.
- Houston (2-3) returned to its home court and opened the weekend with a four-set win over Stetson after Hurricane Harvey forced the Cougars to take last week off. Brianna Lynch had 14 kills with a .321 hitting percentage. The Cougars then went the distance with McNeese State but dropped a five-set heartbreaker to end the day 1-1. Lynch had a team-best 19 kills, while Katie Karbo registered 32 digs.
- Memphis (3-5) split the day, 1-1. The Tigers came out on top in a five-set win to defeat Sam Houston State. Three out of five of the sets came down to the final two points. Tai Bierria had a double-double of 17 kills and 15 digs to lead the Tigers to victory. But Memphis ended the night with a four-set loss to Louisiana Tech.
- The Pirates (5-3) hit a .304 on the way to sweeping Hampton at home on Friday. Natalie Montini led the way with a .545 hitting percentage. ECU then fell in a five-set thriller to Gardner-Webb. The slugfest between the Pirates and Runnin’ Bulldogs featured 116 combined kills, 64 attacking errors, 177 digs and 28 blocks. Each team picked up 14 total blocks while Gardner-Webb won the hitting percentage battle .169 to .106.
- UCF (3-5) took a four-set loss to Oral Roberts in the morning then, Arkansas State at night on Friday. Kia Bright recorded her third double-double of 13 digs and 13 kills against Oral Roberts and her fourth double-double of 19 kills and 14 digs with a .340 hitting percentage against Arkansas State.
- Tulsa (4-4) had a tough day after going 0-2. The Golden Hurricane suffered a 3-0 setback to Colgate in its first match of the weekend. Emily Thorson had 14 kills and six digs, marking her sixth match of the year with double digit kills. Tulane then fell to Stephen F. Austin, 3-2, as Thorson had a match-high 21 kills.
- Carly Nolan had 22 kills, but Cincinnati (1-6) suffered a 3-1 loss to Seton Hall in its weekend opener.
