PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending Feb. 18.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alec Bohm * Jr. * 3B * Wichita State
Bohm fueled Wichita State’s offense, batting .545 (6-for-11) with seven RBIs, three doubles and a home run in a three-game opening weekend road sweep at McNeese State. He finished with a 1.091 slugging percentage and a .667 on base percentage. The junior third baseman launched his first career grand slam for four RBIs in the first game, and went 2-for-3 in each of the final two games of the series.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shane McClanahan * R-So. * LHP * USF
McClanahan guided the Bulls to a 4-3 victory in his opening night start against No. 6 North Carolina. The sophomore southpaw earned the win after pitching six shutout innings, scattering three hits and fanning 11 batters. It was the fourth time in his career he recorded double-digit strikeouts.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Isaac Feldstein * R-Sr. * OF * UConn
Feldstein was a force at the plate for the Huskies through a 2-1 opening weekend performance in Georgia. The senior outfielder went 5-for-13 (.385) at the plate with five runs, two home runs, four RBIs and one double. He registered a .429 on base percentage and a .923 slugging percentage.
Connor Litton * Jr. * 3B * ECU
Litton contributed to a series sweep for ECU against Western Carolina. He batted .556 (5-for-9) with three RBIs, three runs, an .889 slugging percentage, a .692 on base percentage and a home run, helping the team average 7.3 runs per game. He went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in a 9-3 game three win on Sunday.
Aaron Fletcher * Jr. * LHP * Houston
Fletcher recorded a career-high six strikeouts through five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits in his first career start on the way to the team’s first win of the season over Holy Cross (7-1).
Tyler Webb * Sr. * OF * Memphis
Webb batted .500 (5-for-10), hitting three doubles and scoring two runs through the Tigers’ opening weekend series win over Western Kentucky. Webb was perfect at the plate (3-for-3) in Game 1 with two doubles. He ended the weekend with an .800 slugging percentage and a .583 on base percentage.
Sal Gozzo * So. * SS * Tulane
Gozzo hit .444 (4-for-9) to contribute to a three-game sweep over Wright State in Tulane’s opening weekend series. He had two runs and two RBIs, along with three stolen bases throughout the weekend. The shortstop added seven putouts and had no errors to help the Green Wave rally from behind in the final two games.
