Highlights
Four rubber games took place today, as No. 25 UCF, Cincinnati, No. 16 ECU and USF took home conference series wins this week. UConn picked up its fourth nonconference win this week with a 1-0 victory over Hartford.
- Tied at 3-3, UCF (20-9, 3-3) scored six runs in the ninth inning on the way to a 9-3 win over Memphis (9-19, 1-5) to capture the series. The Knights used four arms out of the bullpen, giving up just one run and six hits through the final six innings. Five UCF batters had a multi-hit game, as first baseman Rylan Thomas went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Memphis starter Jonathan Bowlan recorded his fourth quality start of the season, pitching 6.2 innings with 10 strikeouts.
- Cincinnati (12-13, 3-3) clinched its weekend series, winning its second straight game against Houston (17-11, 4-2), 4-2. The Bearcats rallied for two runs in the fourth inning, including a solo home run from Manny Rodriguez. They held off Houston after the Cougars registered a two-run spurt in the eighth frame. Cam Alldred threw his second-straight shutout start. The lefty went 6.2 innings with four hits, three walks and five strikeouts the fourth inning, and held off Houston after the Cougars registered a two-run spurt in the eighth frame. - ECU (20-6, 4-2) recorded its fifth shutout of the season and second American Athletic Conference series win with a 5-0 rout over Wichita State (19-6, 1-2). ECU starter Tyler Smith went 7.1 innings and fanned five batters, while three arms out of the bullpen kept the Shockers hit-less for the rest of the game. The Pirates are part of a three-way tie for the top spot in the league.
- A late three-run rally lifted USF (20-9, 4-2) past Tulane (12-17, 3-3), 10-8, to give the Bulls the series. Tulane led 12-9 in hits. Outfielder Duke Stunkel Jr. and shortstop Coco Montes each had RBIs during the eighth inning spurt. Stunkel Jr. finished the day going 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. USF joins ECU and Houston in first place of the league standings.
- UConn (15-9, 1-2) earned its fourth win of the week, defeating Hartford 1-0. The Huskies scored the only run of the ballgame in the seventh inning, as John Toppa crushed a fly ball to the warning track in left centerfield to bring in pinch-runner Conor Moriarty. P.J. Poulin earning his eighth save after getting the final four outs of the game.
