Highlights
UCF, No. 7 ECU and Memphis earned wins on Wednesday, as The American’s baseball teams finished this week’s nonconference action at 8-2-1. UConn tied Bryant 9-9, while Cincinnati and USF suffered late rallies and took losses. Conference play will resume with its fourth week of action this weekend.

ECU swept the season series and earned its sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win at Elon. The Pirates used four arms to combine for the shutout, scattering only two hits and fanning 16 batters total. Outfielder Bryant Packard hit a solo homer in the opening inning, while second baseman Brady Lloyd and designated hitter Jake Washer each picked up RBIs in the seventh frame. Packard ended the night 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and a double. ECU will return home for a three-game against USF this weekend.

Memphis scored five runs in the third inning on the way to a 6-3 win over Arkansas State to sweep the two-game midweek series. Designated hitter Nick Vaage had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Vaage had one of the Tigers’ four doubles in the game. First baseman Kyle Ouellette and catcher Josh Rooker also put together multiple-hit games. The Tigers will welcome Baylor to FedExPark for a three-game series this weekend.

UCF picked up its nation-leading eighth shutout of the year in a 4-0 win at Miami (Fla.).  The Knights scored on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and tacked on three more runs in the ninth. Starter Cre Finfrock threw five hitless innings and fanned seven batters, while three arms out of the bullpen held the Hurricanes to two hits. UCF will host Cincinnati in a series this weekend.

UConn tied Bryant 9-9 in 10 innings due to darkness at J.O. Christian Field. The Huskies battled back from a four-run and three-run deficit to earn the tie. In the eighth inning trailing 9-6, catcher Zac Susi lined a bases clearing double past the outstretched dive of the Bulldogs left fielder to tie the game, 9-9. However, neither team could find the game-winner before the sun went down. The bats came alive for both sides, as the contest consisted of 26 hits. UConn heads to Kansas to face Wichita State in a series over the weekend.
