PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track and field honors for the week ending April 21.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kahmari Montgomery * Jr. * Houston * Plainfield, Ill.
Montgomery ran the No. 1 400-meter dash time in the conference and fourth-fastest in the nation at the Mt. SAC Relays this weekend. His time of 44.91 seconds broke the Cougars’ record, as he now owns both the indoor and outdoor school records in this event. Three of the nation’s top-4 marks were run in his heat.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jessica Duckett * Jr. * Tulane * Houston, Texas
Duckett sprinted to the top of The American’s performance list in two events this weekend among tough competition at LSU Alumni Gold. She broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.23 seconds, which ranks No. 30 in the nation and leads the conference by .22 seconds this year. She also ran for second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.08 seconds to improve to ranking No. 19 in the NCAA this year.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Luke Vaughn * Gr. * Memphis * East Peoria, Ill.
Vaughn collected his fourth overall weekly conference field honor this year after two first-place performances at the Mt. SAC Relays this weekend. He set a school record in the men’s discus with a toss of 62.18 meters (204.0), which leads the conference and ranks No. 3 in the nation this season. Vaughn owns the only two 200-foot throws in Memphis’ men’s discus history. He also won the shot put with his toss of 18.17 meters (59-7.5). It marked the ninth time in his career that he posted top-three finishes in both these events and the second time this season he won the discus and shot put at the same meet.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Mona Jaidi * So. * Memphis * Bergen, Norway
Jaidi won the discus and placed second in the hammer throw at the Red Wolves Invitational this weekend. She reclaimed the school record in the discus throw, winning her first career discus title after reaching 53.17 meters (174-5), as her distance ranks 34th nationally and leads the league. Her second-place hammer throw traveled 56.15 meters (184-3), as she holds the school record in this event, which she set back in March.
