Highlight
Houston and Cincinnati each completed weekend sweeps, while UCF, No. 20 UConn and No. 20 USF each won their respective rubber matches to close-out Week 6 of conference play on Sunday. For a fifth-straight week, the Cougars lead the league’s standings.

Houston completed its second straight conference sweep over a ranked opponent after holding off No. 7 ECU, 6-5. Tied at 2-2 in the seventh inning, second baseman Connor Hollis drove in run with a single before designated hitter Joe Davis hit a three-run home run. The Pirates rallied late, scoring three runs in the ninth inning after a two-run double from outfielder Bryant Packard, but the Cougars found the final out of the game on a fly out to capture the win. Houston remains in the sole No. 1 spot in The American’s standings, two games ahead of the pack with a 13-5 conference record.

USF scored three runs in the sixth inning to capture its 11th series of the season with a 3-2 edge over Memphis. The Bulls used three hits and two errors to do their damage. USF ends the week in second place in conference standings with an 11-7 league record. Four arms from the USF pitching staff held Memphis to four hits. The Bulls recorded double-digit hits with 10, led by outfielder Kyle Phillips who went 4-for-4.

UCF held No. 30 Wichita State, one of the league’s top offenses, to three hits to come out on top in the rubber match, 8-4. The victory puts the Knights back at .500 (9-9) in league play. UCF held its lead for the entirety of the contest, as its offense surged for 11 hits. First baseman Rylan Thomas hit his conference-leading 12th home run of the season to plate three runs. Outfielder Ray Alejo went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored.

UConn continued its strong American showing, winning its fourth straight conference series with a 9-2 win over Tulane to move into third place in The American’s standings at the end of Week 6 with a 9-6 league record. The Huskies used a strong start, scoring four runs through the first two frames, while their pitching staff combined to shut out the Green Wave through seven innings. Shortstop Anthony Prato and second baseman Michael Woodworth each recorded three hits to combine for six of the Huskies’ 14 hits.

After walking off in a 13-inning game against the Jayhawks last night, Cincinnati returned to the diamond today and completed its weekend sweep of Kansas with a 9-3 win. Starter Cam Alldred tossed 7.0 innings, scattering three runs and six hits, while striking out seven batters. The Bearcats had some big hits for extra bases, including two home runs and two triples.
