DALLAS - Freshman quarterback William Brown threw for career-high 309 yards and two touchdowns as SMU picked up its second straight victory with a 63-27 win against Houston Baptist Saturday night at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
Brown completed 12 of 20 passes to break the 300-yard mark for the first time in his career as the Mustangs reeled off 653 yards of total offense. Reggie Roberson Jr. and Tyler Page both passed 100 receiving yards as Roberson finished with four catches for 104 yards and Page had 102 yards and a touchdown on three catches.
The Mustangs built a 21-3 lead after the first quarter and held a 35-10 advantage at halftime on their way toward improving to 2-3 on the year.
Ben Hicks was 8-of-12 for 61 yards and a touchdown off the bench for SMU, which saw Braeden West rush for two TDs and 69 yards on 12 carries.
Houston Baptist (1-3) was led by quarterback Bailey Zappe, who was 27-of-50 for 226 yards and two touchdowns.
SMU, which faced two top-25 opponents in its first three games, will see another ranked foe on its ledger next week as the Mustangs visit No. 13 UCF for the first of two straight road games.
