American Athletic Conference Announces Weekly Men’s Soccer Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 13.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Harris Partain * Sr. * M * Tulsa

Partain scored all five of Tulsa’s goals on the week, leading to a 1-1-0 record for the Golden Hurricane. He netted his first career hat trick on Oct. 8 against RV Oral Roberts, finding the back of the net in the fifth and 63rd minutes with a penalty kick in the 79th. Tulsa then overcame a 2-0 deficit to No. 9 UCF on Saturday, with Partain recording back-to-back scores in the second half, knotting the score at two before the Knights found the golden goal in double overtime. Partain’s 10-point week is the highest-scoring week for an American Athletic Conference player yet this season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Robin Lapert * Sr. * D * UConn
Lapert contributed on both ends of the field in UConn’s 1-1-0 week, scoring a goal and helping the Huskies earn their first conference win. The senior registered UConn’s lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Providence on Oct. 8, converting a header in the 50th minute. The Huskies then limited Cincinnati to just two shots on goal on Saturday, earning a 2-0 road victory.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Gianluca Catalano * So. * UConn

Catalano made six saves on the week, including two in a 2-0 conference shutout against Cincinnati. The sophomore turned aside a shot in each half to backstop the Huskies to victory. Earlier in the week, Catalano made four saves despite UConn falling to Providence in overtime. For the week, he posted a 0.99 goals against average.
 
Rookie of the Week
Gino Vivi * Fr. * M/F * UCF

Vivi was the hero for UCF on Saturday, scoring in the 104th minute to keep the No. 9 Knights undefeated in conference play against Tulsa. The freshman converted on a cross in the box to lift UCF to the 3-2 win and extend the Knights’ unbeaten streak to 10 games.

Assisted on UCF’s double-overtime game winner against Tulsa, stealing the ball in the Knights’ half to find Gino Vivi for the golden goal; made several key defensive stops against the Golden Hurricane
 
Christoforos Kourtis * Jr. * M * Memphis
Totaled four points in Memphis’s 1-1-0 week, including a goal and two assists; tallied a goal and assist in the Tigers’ 4-1 win over UAB and assisted on the lone goal against Temple on Saturday
 
Knut Ahlander * So. * M * SMU
Was a key offensive presence for No. 3 SMU in the Mustangs’ 3-0 shutout of USF on Friday; tallied his eighth assist of the season in the 29th minute and scored the insurance goal in the 35th minute for his fifth multi-point game on the season
 
Sean Karani * Fr. * F * Temple
Registered his first career goal in the 25th minute against Memphis on Saturday, which proved to be the equalizer in the Owls’ double-overtime 2-1 victory; the win marked the first conference victory for Temple on the season
               
Elias Hellgren Villegas * So. * F * Temple
Buried the golden goal in the 106th minute against Memphis, giving Temple the 2-1 victory; the score marked his first of the season and lifted the Owls to their first conference win of 2019
