PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 13.
Offensive Player of the Week
McKenna Melville * So. * OH * UCF
Melville stood out all over the floor for UCF during a 2-0 weekend, leading the Knights with 30 kills and 4.29 kills per set while adding a .375 hitting percentage and 21 digs to her stat line. She opened the weekend with 18 kills, 11 digs and one block in hostile territory at USF, leading UCF to a four-set victory in front of a capacity crowd in Tampa. Melville added a solid performance on Sunday at home against Memphis with 12 kills and 10 digs for her conference-high 13th double-double of the season. Through 18 matches in 2019, Melville ranks second in The American with 4.24 kills per set.
Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Horsfall * Sr. * DS/L * Tulsa
Horsfall claimed conference defensive player of the week for the third straight time in a narrow vote after pacing The American with 6.62 digs per set (53 total digs) and no reception errors over a 1-1 conference showing for Tulsa. She added 10 assists and three service aces to the cause for the Golden Hurricane over eight sets played. Horsfall picked up 27 digs and four assists, along with all three aces, in a four-set triumph against Tulane on Friday in Tulsa. She capped the weekend in a showdown with first-place Houston by registering 26 digs and six assists, her seventh time over 20 digs in her last eight starts, in a defeat at the hands of the Cougars on Sunday. Horsfall’s 5.66 digs per set thus far in 2019 remains at the top of The American statistical ranks.

Finished second in The American with 46 total digs and an average of 5.75 digs per set for first-place Houston as the Cougars moved to 6-0 in league play; recorded 18 digs and two assists in a four-set win at Wichita State before securing an impressive 28 digs and four assists in four sets to defeat Tulsa on Sunday

Paced The American with 51 kills and 6.38 kills per set during the weekend, while also contributing 31 total digs; went for 26 kills and nine digs in a four-set win against Tulane on Friday before erupting for 25 kills and 22 digs against West Division leader Houston on Sunday

Finished the weekend with a team-high 44 digs and 4.89 digs per set, adding 10 assists and three aces to the Tulane cause for the weekend; posted 21 digs and four assists in a four-set loss at Tulsa on Friday before bouncing back with 23 digs, six assists and two aces in a five-set triumph to close the week at Wichita State

Credited with a league-high 101 assists while averaging 12.62 helpers per frame for SMU in a 2-0 weekend, to go along with 18 digs and four aces; recorded 54 assists and added 13 digs and four aces in a four-set win over Memphis before dropping 47 assists, five digs and two block assists on Sunday in four frames at USF
