The American had seven men's basketball teams in action on Saturday (Nov. 16) and went 6-1. Four squads, SMU, Temple, Tulane and Wichita State, all improved to 3-0 on the season, while Memphis and Tulsa moved to 3-1. Memphis, with 102 against Alcorn State, and Wichita State, with 103 vs. UT Martin, became the first two American squads to crack 100 points in a game this season.
Temple 70, La Salle 65 -

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Nate Pierre-Louis posted his third straight double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds as Temple narrowly beat La Salle 70-65 on Saturday.
Quinton Rose had 18 points for Temple (3-0). J.P. Moorman II added seven rebounds and six assists.
The Owls were up 36-22 at the break but La Salle charged back to close to 69-65 after trailing 67-57 with 27 seconds left. Ed Croswell had a layup and Sherif Kenney and Scott Spencer drained treys to cut the deficit to four with :02 remaining.
David Beatty and Kenney had 13 points apiece for the Explorers (1-2). Saul Phiri had 11 points.
Temple matches up against USC on the road on Friday. La Salle matches up against Murray State next Monday.
Tulane 79, Northwestern State 52 -

Memphis 102, Alcorn State 56 -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Lester Quinones had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Precious Achiuwa added 20 points Saturday, sending No. 13 Memphis to a 102-56 romp over Alcorn State.
Top recruit James Wiseman was sidelined because of eligibility issues, but Memphis hardly missed him in bouncing back from its first defeat of the season, an 82-74 loss to Oregon on Tuesday night.
DJ Jeffries finished with 15 points and Tyler Harris and Lance Thomas added 11 each for Memphis (3-1). Isaiah Attles led Alcorn State (1-3) with 13 points while Troymain Crosby had 10.
Alcorn State's zone initially took Memphis out of any flow, the Tigers choosing long passes across the top of the defense and struggling to get the ball inside. That kept the Braves in the game near the midway point of the first half.
The Memphis defense eventually put pressure on the Braves, leading to 16 Alcorn State turnovers in the half. Memphis put together a 24-3 run to close the half and carry a 52-24 lead into the break. The lead would swell to 53 in the second half.
Wichita State 103, UT Martin 62 -

Etienne hit 5 of 8 3-pointers.
Jamarius Burton had 18 points, six rebounds and five assists for Wichita State (3-0). Morris Udeze added 14 points. Trey Wade and Erik Stevenson had 10 points apiece for the home team.
It was the first time this season Wichita State scored at least 100 points.
Miles Thomas had 15 points for the Skyhawks (2-2). Quintin Dove added 13 points and five rebounds. Derek Hawthorne, Jr. had 11 points.
Tulsa 72, Austin Peay 65 -

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Brandon Rachal had a career-high 30 points to help Tulsa hold off Austin Peay for a 72-65 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Darien Jackson also posted a career best, totaling 16 points. Rachel, who was 9 of 12 from the floor and 10 of 11 from the free-throw line, also grabbed seven rebounds for Tulsa (3-1).
Austin Peay, which led 36-34 at the break, held its last lead after Antwuan Butler drained a 3 for a 59-57 advantage with 5:27 remaining. That was Austin Peay's last field goal of the night as the Governors were outscored 15-6 in the final five minutes. They did close to 66-63 at the 1:10 mark after Reginald Gee made two free throws. Tulsa's Lawson Korita answered with a jumper and Rachel added two free throws for a 70-63 lead with :31 remaining.
Terry Taylor had 22 points to go with 11 rebounds for Austin Peay (1-2). Jordyn Adams chipped in 15.
Liberty 77, ECU 57 -

Jayden Gardner had 26 points on 10 of 15 shooting for the Pirates (1-3). Brandon Suggs added 13 points. Tristen Newton had 10 points.
The Flames led by six at halftime but pushed the lead to 41-28 in less than three minutes when Scottie James scored six of his nine points and McGhee hit a 3-pointer for a comfortable margin the rest of the way.
SMU 80, Jackson State 63 -
