TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—USF women’s soccer advanced to the NCAA Championship Third round for the first time in program history with a 2-0 win over Washington in the second round Friday afternoon (Nov. 22).
With the win, the Bulls (16-4-0) will face No. 1 seed and defending national champion Florida State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be shown live on ACC Network Extra. Florida State defeated Brown, 2-0, in the second round.
The Bulls once again relied on Evelyne Viens to provide the scoring, as Viens scored a brace with goals in the 25th and 51st minutes. Viens, The American’s all-time leader in goals and points, now has nine goals in the postseason, including five in two NCAA Championship contests. Viens now has 25 goals on the season, also a conference record.
Sydny Nasello provided the assist on the Bulls’ first goal, making a cross from the right side that Viens was able to get a boot on.
Sydney Martinez was huge in goal for the Bulls, making a season-high seven saves, including a penalty kick save in the 76th minute.
The Huskies (12-7-2) led in shots, 14-10, and corners, 5-3.
USF is the third American team to make the NCAA Championship Third Round in league history. UCF advanced to the third round in 2014 and UConn moved on to the third round in 2015.
