TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—American Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament champion USF was defeated in the NCAA Championship third round by No. 1 seed Florida State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon (Nov. 24).
The Bulls (16-5-0) struck first early in the match when Katie Kitching found Aubrey Megrath who beat the FSU keeper in the fifth minute.
The Seminoles (18-5-0) scored right before halftime on a Jaelin Howell goal and then took the lead in the 53rd minute on a penalty by Deyna Castellanos.
FSU led in shots, 16-4, and corners, 10-0. Sydney Martinez made five saves in goal for the Bulls.
The third round was the farthest USF had ever advanced in the NCAA Championship. They were making their third consecutive NCAA appearance.
