PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly men’s basketball honors for Nov. 25.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Precious Achiuwa, Fr., F, Memphis
Achiuwa averaged 20.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in two wins for the Tigers last week. He had a season-high 25 points and 11 rebounds against Ole Miss on Saturday after posting 16 points and a season-high 12 rebounds against Little Rock on Wednesday. Achiuwa now has three consecutive double-doubles.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
James Bouknight, G, UConn
Bouknight helped lead the Huskies to a third-place finish at the Charleston Classic, averaging 13.3 points in three games while shooting 72.7 percent from the field and grabbing 4.3 rebounds in only 18.3 minutes per contest. He poured in 19 points against No. 18/21 Xavier on Friday and scored 13 points in the Huskies’ 80-55 win over Miami (Fla.) on Sunday.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Collin Smith, R-Jr., F, UCF
Smith recorded 23 points, eight rebounds and three assists while making 9-or-10 free throws including crucial ones in a 72-71 win over Charleston.
Quentin Grimes, So., G, Houston
Grimes averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the Cougars went 1-1 last week. He poured in 32 points against Rice, the highest single-game point total so far this year in The American.
Feron Hunt, So., F, SMU
Hunt helped the Mustangs go 2-0 on the road this past week, averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 60.0 percent from the field.
Josh Pierre-Louis, Fr., G, Temple
Pierre-Louis made the most of his 15 minutes against USC, leading the Owls with 15 points, three assists and three steals in a 70-61 away win.
Jordan Walker, R-So., G, Tulane
Walker averaged 11.3 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals at the Myrtle Beach Invitational. He scored in double figures in all three games, including 12 in a 65-61 win over Utah.
