Tulsa Advances To NIVC Semis With Win Over Weber State

TULSA, Okla.
– Tulsa continued its impressive run through the 2019 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), holding off Weber State in five sets on Thursday night at the Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane took the quarterfinal victory 25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 20-25, 15-10. Tulsa advances to the semifinal round of the NIVC, where the Golden Hurricane travels to South Dakota on Saturday with a bid into the tournament final on the line.
 
Despite cooling off after a quick 2-0 lead, Tulsa bounced back after Weber State (26-9) won the third and fourth sets to force the deciding fifth frame. With the match tied 10-all in the fifth, the Golden Hurricane closed the contest on a 5-0 run that was capped off by a pair of solo blocks for the victory.
 
American Athletic Conference Libero of the Year Taylor Horsfall led all players with 39 digs in the contest, becoming both The American and Tulsa’s career digs leader in the process. Horsfall added three service aces, three kills and six assists to the Tulsa cause in the win. Callie Cook swung at a .483 clip with 16 kills and six total blocks for the Golden Hurricane, while Kayley Cassaday and Maddie Rhoder each posted 12 kills. Mariah Pardo turned in 22 assists and seven digs and Roosa Rautio 29 assists and four digs in the Tulsa triumph.
