PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly men’s basketball honors for Dec. 23.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jayden Gardner, So., F, East Carolina
Gardner averaged 22.5 points and 10.0 rebounds a game in two victories for the Pirates last week. The sophomore shot 57.7 percent from the field in wins over UMES and Charlotte.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Precious Achiuwa, F, Memphis
Achiuwa recorded 20 points and nine rebounds in the Tigers’ 77-49 win over Jackson State on Saturday (Dec. 21). The forward was 8-of-9 from the field and did not commit a turnover in the second half.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
 
Nate Hinton, So., G, Houston
Hinton averaged a double-double with 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds a game in wins over UTEP and Portland.
 
Isiaha Mike, Jr., F, SMU
Mike posted 25 points (all after halftime), 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists in an double overtime loss at Georgia.
 
Teshaun Hightower, Jr., G, Tulane
Hightower scored the most points in a single game in The American this season with 33 vs. Towson. He averaged 22.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in three games last week.
 
Jeriah Horne, R-Jr., F, Tulsa
Horne recorded 28 points, six rebounds and was 5-of-10 from behind the arc in a triple overtime loss against Colorado State.
 
Jaime Echenique, Sr., C, Wichita State
Echenique had a key 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks in 14 minutes in the Shockers’ win over (rv/25) VCU.
