Cincinnati vs. VCU Box Score | UCF at No. 10 Florida Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Cincinnati bounced back from a setback in the first set in its opening match of the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship on Friday against VCU, eventually winning the contest in four sets. The Bearcats emerged with a 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-23 decision over VCU (24-7) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
 
Cincinnati (26-6) advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament to match up with No. 6 Pittsburgh on Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET), as the host Panthers were winners in three sets over Howard on Friday night.
 
Unanimous American Athletic Conference Player of the Year Jordan Thompson led Cincinnati with 27 kills on .284 hitting, adding 10 digs and a pair of blocks in the victory. All-conference first-team choice Maria Mallon added 16 kills and six digs for the Bearcats, and all-conference second-team Armania Heckenmueller turned in 49 assists and 15 digs.
 
Elsewhere in the second round of the NCAA Championship, 2019 American tournament champion UCF saw its season end in three sets against host No. 10 Florida on Friday night in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators (26-7) advanced past the Knights (26-5) by way of a 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 triumph.
 
Unanimous all-conference first-team choice McKenna Melville led UCF with 19 digs and added nine kills, and fellow all-conference first-teamer Kristina Fisher chipped in 10 kills and three service aces. Amber Olson logged 13 assists, three service aces and five digs to the stat sheet for the Knights.
