Highlights

Tulane shined across The American on Wednesday night, soaring past Lamar, 22-10, to stay unbeaten with a 5-0 record. The Green Wave’s 22 runs were the most scored in the conference since 2016 when Memphis blanked Eastern Illinois, 23-0. No. 11 ECU (3-1), Houston (2-2) and Memphis (1-3) each took midweek losses, as the league dropped to 21-14 against other conferences this year. American Athletic Conference teams will combine for another 28 games over the weekend, which includes 12 contests against top-20 foes.

Murray State 10, Memphis 6
Early runs plagued the Memphis, as the Tigers dropped a 10-6 decision to Murray State at FedExPark. Murray State plated five runs in the first inning to build an early advantage. Although Memphis answered on three occasions, the Racers never relinquished the lead. Second baseman Ben Brooks tallied a pair of hits, while third baseman Cale Hennemann also had a multi-hit effort in a 2-for-4 performance. The Tigers return to action and continue their season-opening home stand with a three-game set against Southern Illinois this weekend.

Campbell 7, No. 11 ECU 6
Outfielder Bryson Worrell blasted a three-run home run in the eighth inning before first baseman/outfielder Alec Burleson hit a three-run shot to opposite field for his first-collegiate homer in the ninth, but the Pirates’ rally came up short in a 7-6 walk-off loss to Campbell on the road. ECU was yet to score a run before Worrell and Burleson fueled a late six-run comeback to tie the game in the ninth inning. However, the Camels scored the game-winner in the final frame to walk off with the win.

Making his first career start, Gavin Williams was impressive fanning a career-high seven batters, walking one while allowing a run (unearned) on two hits in four innings. ECU returns to Clark-LeClair Stadium for a series against Monmouth over the weekend.

McNeese State 13, Houston 5 (14)
Houston was going for its third walk-off win in two weeks, but McNeese State tacked on 10 runs on five hits in the 14th inning to hand the Cougars a 13-5 loss in extra innings. Houston rallied in the bottom half of the final frame, as designated hitter Joe Davis hit a two-run double, but the Cowboys found the final out of the game to hang on for the win. Davis ended the night, batting .500 with three hits, four RBIs, a double and a home run. Starter Clay Aguilar struck out six through 3.0 scoreless innings, scattering four hits. Houston is back in action at home over the weekend when it welcomes No. 24 Arizona to Schroeder Park.

Tulane 22, Lamar 10
Third baseman Kody Hoese tied The American’s single-game home-run record with three to help Tulane achieve its fifth-straight win, clinching its second series of the 2019 season. Hoese became the fifth player in American history to hit three homers in a game, joining teammate Grant Mathews on the list. Mathews hit a trio of long balls against Memphis in 2018. For a fourth-straight game, Tulane pounded out double-digits hits, outhitting Lamar 15-10. Of the team's 15 hits, seven were for extra bases with a pair of doubles, a triple and four home runs. Hoese finished the night 4-for-7 with four RBIs. He’s batting .520 on the season. Four other Green Wave batters earned a multi-hit and multi-RBI game, as first baseman Trevor Jensen went 3-for-6 with five RBIs, a double and a home run.

The Green Wave will close out their eight-game homestand this weekend hosting No. 10  Ole Miss for a three-game series.
