Wichita State 8, UT Arlington 6
Wichita State rallied from an early two-run deficit and held its lead despite a late UT Arlington comeback attempt to claim an 8-6 win over the Mavericks in the UT Arlington Classic. Jordan Boyer pounded out three hits, and fellow senior Luke Ritter drove in two runs on his second home run of the season to pace the Shockers at the plate. Junior Alex Jackson drove in a game-high three runs. The Shockers tallied six runs through the sixth and seventh innings to take the lead for good. Wichita State earned a second-straight win and will host Creighton in its home opener in a series over the weekend.
Cincinnati 5, Houston Baptist 4 (12)
Cincinnati edged out Houston Baptist in the series finale for its first win of the season, coming 5-4 in twelve innings. Jace Mercer had the game-winning RBI, doubling to center field with two strikes and two outs late in the game. Freshman Nick Murray earned his first collegiate win by working out of jams in the later innings. Mercer had a good day overall, going 4-for-7 with an RBI and run scored, while Dondrae Bremner went 3-for-5.
No. 5 North Carolina 2, USF 1 | No. 5 North Carolina 5, USF 3
USF dropped a pair of close games in Sunday's doubleheader at No. 5 North Carolina by scores of 2-1 and 5-3. In game one, the Bulls were plagued by the first inning, as the Tar Heels scored two runs on just one hit against senior righthander Alec Wisely. USF senior Kyle Phillips brought home Jordan Santos with an RBI single to close the gap to one in the third inning. The Bulls put the tying run aboard in the top of the ninth with two outs, but could not even the scoreboard.
In game two, the Bulls and Tar Heels were at a 3-3 stalemate through seven innings. North Carolina hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth to move ahead for good. Santos went 3-for-7 on the day with a run and an RBI.
Charleston 7, UConn 6
UConn took a 7-6 Sunday loss, as Charleston claimed the three-game weekend series. UConn took the lead in the fourth to overcome a 3-0 deficit with outfielder Michael Woodworth giving UConn its first lead with a two-run single. Woodworth collected his second-straight three-hit effort and tied his career-high with three RBIs. The bullpen could not hold the advantage for the Huskies, though, allowing three runs and one inherited run.
Monmouth 8, No. 11 ECU 5
Monmouth scored five runs in the seventh inning, erasing a four-run deficit and defeating No. 11 ECU 8-5 in the third game of the series. The Pirates held the lead through six innings but couldn’t overcome the Hawks’ big rally. ECU’s Thomas Francisco finished the day with two hits, including solo home runs in the third and sixth innings, while Ryder Giles drove in a team-high three runs.
Memphis 7, Southern Illinois 2 | Southern Illinois 2, Memphis 1
Memphis split a doubleheader against Southern Illinois at FedExPark, taking the first game 7-2 before dropping Game 2, 2-1. Despite Southern Illinois taking an early lead in the first game of the day, Memphis responded quickly and then added a pair of runs each in the third, sixth and seventh innings. On the mound, Hunter Smith tallied his first win of the young season. The senior threw 6.1 innings and matched a career-best with seven strikeouts. Hunter Goodman went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the first game. In the day's second game, Ben Brooks enjoyed a 3-for-4 outing.
No. 18 Auburn 13, UCF 9
In a game that featured seven home runs, 26 hits and 22 runs, the UCF baseball team dropped the rubber match of its weekend series against No. 18 Auburn, 13-9. UCF held a 6-5 lead in the third, but the Tigers used a four-run rally in the fourth frame and never looked back from there. Dallas Beaver went 2-for-3 at the dish with a career-high two home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored. Tyler Osik had a 3-for-5 performance with two RBIs, as the Knights strung together five extra base hits.
No. 10 Ole Miss 6, Tulane 3
Tulane held the lead through the first five innings of Sunday’s series finale, but the Green Wave were unable to counter a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings from No. 10 Ole Miss in a 6-3 rubber game loss. For the third time on the weekend Tulane outhit the Rebels, with Sunday's tally being 11-8 in favor of the Green Wave with four different players earning multiple hits on the day. Kobi Owen led the team going 3-for-4. David Bedgood hit his second home run in as many games among his two hits, while Trevor Jensen went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
No. 24 Arizona 9, Houston 5
After clinching the three-game series Saturday, Houston fell to No. 24 Arizona, 9-4, in Sunday’s series finale. Designated hitter Joe Davis finished with a solo home run and an RBI double as part of a 2-for-5 showing. The Wildcats extended their lead with a five-run seventh inning. Relievers Brayson Hurdsman (2.1 IP), Ron Brown (1.1 IP), Spencer Hynes (0.1 IP) and Nolan Bond (0.2) all turned in scoreless appearances. Houston scored the final three runs of the game but would get no closer than four, taking their third loss of the young season.
