Four Florida Gators Tabbed to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four members of the Florida lacrosse team were named to the 2019 Tewaaraton Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday night.
 
Seniors Haley Hicklen and Lindsey Ronbeck earned their third appearance on the Watch List, while senior Sydney Pirreca earned her second nod. Junior Cara Trombetta became Florida’s 15th Tewaaraton Award Nominee.
 
Overall, the Gators have had 15 players earn 28 Tewaaraton Award nominations in the 10-year history of Florida lacrosse, with four finalists.
 
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
 
Florida Nominees:
Senior goalkeeper Haley Hicklen – Hicklen has appeared in 62 games during her career as a Gator and just became Florida’s all-time leader in saves, currently sitting at 417. She is a two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and two-time First Team selection and was named AAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year this season.  The Baltimore, Md. native was a 2018 IWLCA and ILWomen Second Team All-American and has earned seven Player of the Week honors during her career. Hicklen has logged 2,825:33 minutes in the cage across 62 games, earning 26 wins and 10 losses. She also has collected 145 groundballs during her career, just seven away from tying Florida’s all-time record.
 
Senior midfielder Sydney Pirreca - Pirreca has appeared in 64 games over the course of her career as a Gator. A two-time BIG EAST First Team selection, Pirreca has scored 157 points (116 goals, 41 assists), which puts her 11th all-time in program history. Her 116 goals put her 10th in Florida’s program history and her 41 assists also ranks her 10th all-time. In her career, Pirreca has compiled 98 draw controls, 79 groundballs and 29 caused turnovers. The senior earned an IWLCA All-American nod last season and has earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament team all three seasons of her career. 
 
Senior attacker Lindsey Ronbeck – Ronbeck has appeared in 61 games during her career as a Gator and is on track to become just the third Gator to score 200 goals during a career – she currently sits at 169 goals. A three-time BIG EAST First Team selection, Ronbeck was named AAC Preseason Attacker of the Year for the 2019 campaign. The senior currently leads the nation in shots per game (10.67) and is second in goals per game (5.00). Ronbeck sits fifth all-time in points (221) and fourth in goals (169). Her 2.77 goals per game and 3.62 points per game rank second in Florida’s program history. 
 
Junior defender Cara Trombetta – Trombetta has played in 44 games as a Gator, earning both IWLCA and ILWomen All-American nods last season. She recorded a program record 42 caused turnovers in 2018, topping her own record of 27 from 2017. She currently sits
at 72 for her career, just 15 off Florida’s all-time program record. Trombetta has collected 90 groundballs during the 44 games in her career.

Additions to the watch list will be added on March 21 and April 4. On April 25, a list of Top-25 Nominees will be released. Five finalists will be announced on May 9, with the Tewaaraton Ceremony set for May 30 in Washington, DC.
