No. 14 ECU 6, UCF 5
Spencer Brickhouse's solo home run in the eighth inning proved to be the game-winning hit as No. 14 ECU completed a three-game American Athletic Conference series sweep of UCF, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. Turner Brown also had a late solo shot, hitting a home run in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie. Alec Burleson notched his second save of the season surrendering one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
For the third-straight game, ECU pounded out double-digit hits registering 11 on the day and improving to 13-0 on the season when it has tallied 10-plus. Brown led three players with multiple base knocks going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Ray Alejo and Tyler Osik led the Knights’ offense combining for six hits and plating all five runs.
Cincinnati 4, USF 1
Cincinnati took the series from USF on Sunday with a 4-1 win as Garrett Schoenle led the team with a phenomenal performance on the mound. The sophomore pitched into the ninth, giving up just four hits in 8.1 innings while striking out a career-best 12 batters. The Bearcats tallied one run in four-straight innings. Wyatt Stapp, Cole Murphy and Jeremy Johnson all had two hits in the game. USF’s Kyle Phillips had two hits for the fourth-straight game. He hit .444 this week.
Memphis 6, Wichita State 3
A three-run ninth inning propelled Memphis to a 6-3 victory against Wichita State Sunday afternoon at Eck Stadium. Tied 3-3 in the ninth, Cale Hennemann drove a two-run RBI single through the ride side to put Memphis ahead. Two batters later, a safety squeeze from Keith Stepter built a three-run cushion. Stepter finished the day with three RBIs and a home run, while Neel enjoyed a 3-for-5 day at the plate and scored a pair of runs. Neel also spent time on the mound, picking up his fourth save of the season. Ross Cadena had two hits to lead the Shockers. Wichita State’s Luke Ritter hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for his fifth long ball of the year. He has reached base safely in 35-straight games dating back to last season.
Tulane 3, Houston Baptist 1
Tulane battled back from an early in a 3-1 win over Houston Baptist Sunday afternoon to clinch the weekend sweep at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Tulane starter Chase Solesky earned the win after striking out nine and allowing one run on three hits in 5.1 innings. Jonathon Artigues led Tulane at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in the win for the Green Wave. David Bedgood tied the game in the second on his fifth home run of the year, while Trevor Jensen gave Tulane a bit of insurance in the sixth with an RBI double to make it a two-score game.
UConn 9, Houston 3
UConn earned a series win at Houston after defeating the Cougars 9-3 on Sunday afternoon at Schroeder Park. Mike Woodworth led the way with a four-hit effort that included a pair of home runs. UConn used a five-run third inning surge to capture the win. The Huskies' bullpen combined for 4.2 scoreless innings, scattering three hits and one walk. UConn secured its first series win at Houston in three attempts. The Huskies have won three-straight series dating back to their series win at Texas State. Three Houston batters had a multi-hit game.
