ECU and Wichita State clinch series, UCF and UConn set for Sunday rubber match

UConn scored two runs in the 11th inning to even its series at UCF with a 3-1 win Saturday. Michael Woodworth crossed home plate on a wild pitch for the go-ahead run before Chris Winkel drove in Anthony Prato with a sacrifice fly for insurance. Sunday’s rubber match is set for a 1 p.m. ET first pitch in Orlando.
 
UConn reliever Jacob Wallace earned his second win of the season after tossing the final 3.0 shutout innings, striking out six while scattering one hit and allowing no walks. Christian Fedko ended the day with two hits, while Kyler Fedko gave the Huskies an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the second inning. Chandler Robertson recorded the only RBI for UCF in the third inning. He went 2-for-2 on the night. Starter Chris Williams tossed 7.0 innings, scattering one run on five hits without issuing a walk.
 
No. 13 ECU 13, USF 7
For a second-straight week, No. 13 ECU clinched an American series over a Sunshine State foe, as the Pirates held off USF, 13-7, Saturday night. ECU improved to 5-0 in American play and extended its winning streak to eight-straight games. Bryant Packard hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to power a 6-0 run, while Alec Burleson ended the night with three hits, two RBIs and a homer. In total, five Pirates registered multi-hit showings.
 
ECU claimed its first series win over the Bulls since 2005. Kyle Phillips, Austin Bodrato and Jake Sullivan each had three hits for USF. Both teams combined for 29 hits, as hits were 15-14 in favor of USF.  USF left 11 base runners stranded. Sunday’s series finale is set for a 1 p.m. ET first pitch.

Wichita State 11, Bethune-Cookman 4
A seven-run fourth inning propelled Wichita State to an 11-4 victory over Bethune-Cookman in Game 2 of a three-game series Saturday. The Shockers clinched the series and have won four in a row heading into Sunday’s series finale set for 1 p.m. ET.  Wichita State led 12-6 in hits, as four Shockers enjoyed a multi-hit outing. Jordan Boyer went 3-for-5 with a triple and RBI, while Hunter Gibson tallied a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. Righthander Liam Eddy earned his third win after tossing seven scoreless innings in relief. He surrendered only one hit and one walk while posting a career-high seven strikeouts.
