Cincinnati scored all seven of its runs through the first three innings to capture a 7-6 series finale win against Tulane Sunday. The Bearcats’ pitching staff held Tulane to four hits, as Korren Thompson earned his fourth save of the season in 2.0 innings of work with one run, one hit, two walks and four strikeouts. Eric Santiago and Cole Murphy had two hits each, while A.J. Bumpass drove in a pair of runs to lead Cincinnati at the plate. Sal Gozzo led Tulane with three hits, two RBIs, a home run and a double.
ECU 5, USF 1
Bryant Packard hit his second grand slam of the weekend in the second inning to lift No. 13 ECU to a 5-1 win at USF on the way to completing its second-straight weekend sweep. The Pirates have won nine in a row and remain undefeated in American play with a 6-0 record. ECU starter Jake Kuchmaner earned his third win, allowing one run on four hits with three walks and six punch outs. Gavin Williams notched his first save of the season after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings with a career-high eight strikeouts. Alec Burleson extended the Pirates’ lead to 5-0 with a solo blast to start the fifth inning. Tyler Dietrich registered three hits for USF, including an RBI double.
UConn 10, UCF 0 (7)
UConn pounded out a season-high 16 hits en route to a 10-0 runs-rule victory against UCF to win the series at John Euliano Park. The game ended after seven innings due to a league-mandated runs-rule of 10 runs or more on a travel day. The Huskies have won four-straight series and two road American Athletic Conference series.
The UConn offense jolted to life after only 11 hits and four runs scored in the first two games of the series. Six Huskies contributed multi-hit games and every UConn batter reached at least once. Anthony Prato went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run. John Toppa also enjoyed a three-hit outing, including a pair of doubles. Thad Phillips registered two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Houston 4, Memphis 3
Houston used a late rally to overcome a 3-0 deficit and push past Memphis, 4-3, in Sunday’s series finale at FedExPark. The Cougars tallied a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to clinch the win. Rey Fuentes III hit a solo home run in a pinch-hit at-bat before Jared Triolo drove in Brad Burckel with an RBI single in the seventh. Joe Davis then scored Kobe Hyland with an RBI double to tie the game before Fuentes collected his second RBI of the game on a fielder’s choice play. Davis hit his 51st-career double to tie The American’s all-time doubles record. Three Houston batters ended the day with multiple hits. Houston reliever Fred Villarreal retired the side in the ninth, securing the come-from-behind win and earning his fifth save of the year.
Chris Durham gave Memphis a good start on the mound with six strikeouts through 6.1 innings of work. Colton Neel led the Tigers at the dish with two hits.
Wichita State 7, Bethune-Cookman 0
Clayton McGinness fired seven shutout innings to help Wichita State blank Bethune-Cookman 7-0 Sunday, completing a three-game series sweep of the Wildcats. The Shockers extended their winning streak to five-straight games. McGinness allowed three hits while posting four strikeouts with only one walk to earn his third win of the season. Noah Croft went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in the game-winning RBI, while Jacob Katzfey added a pair of hits and an RBI to pace the Shockers at the plate.
