No. 7 Mississippi State 4, No. 14 ECU 1
It was a top-25 clash, as No. 14 ECU took a 4-1 loss at No. 7 Mississippi State Tuesday night. The Pirates continue a tough midweek road test when they head to No. 12 Ole Miss Wednesday night. Shortstop Turner Brown plated the only run of the night for ECU with an RBI double in the sixth inning to briefly cut the deficit to one run. However, the Bulldogs tallied a run in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away with a 4-1 win. Both teams combined for only 10 hits in the game, as the Pirates accounted for four. Evan Voliva tossed the final 2.1 innings in relief for ECU, striking out six, while scattering two hits and a run.
Rice 5, Houston 3
Houston outfielder Tyler Bielamowicz drove in a run with an RBI single in the eighth inning to close the gap to two, but the Cougars didn’t get any closer in a 5-3 loss to Rice in the opening game of the 2019 Silver Glove Series Tuesday night. Houston couldn’t overcome an early lead by the Owls after Rice tacked on three runs on four hits in the second inning. Bielamowicz ended the night with two hits, including a triple to lead the Cougars. Nolan Bond shut out Rice through 4.0 innings in relief, scattering three hits, while fanning three batters. The Cougars continue their homestand with a three-game series against Army this weekend.
