UConn 6, Northeastern 2
UConn scored all six runs with two outs to defeat Northeastern, 6-2, on Wednesday afternoon at J.O. Christian Field. With the win, the Huskies completed a midweek sweep after defeating Bryant Tuesday. They also clinched a season series sweep of Northeastern after taking down the Huskies back in March. Conor Moriarty, David Langer and Christian Fedko each recorded multi-hit efforts for the UConn lineup. Colby Dunlop made the start for the Huskies, logging 4.0 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and totaled a season-high five strikeouts. UConn has two players that have reached base in at least 30 consecutive games. Mike Woodworth (30) and Anthony Prato (39) both extended their streaks on Wednesday. The Huskies are set to host Memphis for a three-game conference series starting Friday.
USF 12, Bethune-Cookman 2
USF used an eight-run surge in the fourth inning on the way to completing a season series sweep of Bethune-Cookman in Tampa Wednesday night. The Bulls used 12 hits and pummeled four home runs in the win. Jordan Santos (grand slam) and Chris Chatfield (two-run) each hit homers to power the fourth-inning surge. Santos ended the night with three hits, two home runs and six RBIs. Seven USF batters recorded at least one hit. USF starter Richie Cruz scattered one run on three hits and a walk, while fanning four batters. The Bulls will head to New Orleans this weekend to face Tulane in a three-game conference series.
Miami (Ohio) 12, Cincinnati 8 (11)
It was a four-hour game, as Cincinnati rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to bring the contest to extra innings, but Miami (Ohio) scored four runs in the 11th frame to clinch its third-straight Joe Nuxhall Classic Championship title. The Redhawks scored each of their extra-inning runs with two outs and saw an excellent outing in relief from Cole Gnetz, who tossed the final 3.0 shutout innings, collecting seven punch outs. Four Bearcats had at least three hits, as Joey Bellini went 4-for-6. AJ Bumpass went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, three RBIs and two triples. Joey Wiemer and Eric Santiago also had three-hit showings. Cincinnati starter Clayton Colvin struck out five through 3.1 innings of work. Hits were 17-15 in favor of Miami. Down 6-0 to enter the sixth inning, the Bearcats tallied all of their runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth frames. Cincinnati returns to American play this weekend when it hosts UCF in a three-game series.
Oklahoma State 1, Wichita State 0
Wichita State outhit Oklahoma State 7-4, but the Shockers were edged 1-0 by the Cowboys on Wednesday night. The sole run of the night from Oklahoma State came on an RBI single from Noah Sifrit in the top of the fifth inning. Jordan Boyer led the Shockers at the plate with two hits. Four Wichita State pitchers had scoreless outings. Luke Ritter’s 44-game on-base streak carried over from last season came to an end, as the senior infielder went 0-for-4 on the night. The Cowboys went deep into their bullpen, using eight arms, as only one Oklahoma State pitcher tossed more than one inning. Wichita State will look to snap a three-game slide when it welcomes Houston to Eck Stadium for an American series.
