UConn 4, Memphis 2
A two-run single from Christian Fedko lifted UConn to a series win against Memphis, 4-2, on Sunday at J.O. Christian Field. The win moved the Huskies back into third place alongside Cincinnati with a 7-5 American record. After the Tigers tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning, Fedko drove home the game-winning runs in the bottom half of the frame to give UConn the lead for good. Fedko finished the day with a pair of hits and three RBIs. He also contributed a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning to make it 2-0 Huskies. UConn starter Jimmy Wang set the tone with 4.0 scoreless innings. CJ Dandeneau, making his 76th career appearance, earned the win with 2.0 innings of work. He allowed one hit, one unearned run and struck out a pair. Anthony Prato's 41-game reach-base streak was snapped in a 0-4 performance.
Nick Vaage had the only RBI single of the day for Memphis. Colton Neel scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two all in the eighth. Memphis starter Chris Durham tossed 6.0 innings, striking out three while scattering two runs on four hits.
Houston 7, Wichita State 4
Houston completed a weekend series sweep of Wichita State Sunday afternoon with a 7-4 win, as the Cougars have won four in a row. Nine Houston batters had at least one hit, as Grayson Padgett, Joe Davis, Rey Fuentes III and Kyle Lovelace each turned in multi-hit showings with an RBI. Houston tallied at least one run in sixth innings, including the final three runs of the game in the eighth and ninth frames to secure the win. Devon Roedahl tossed 1.1 clean innings to close out the game in relief for the Cougars and earn his third save of the season. Jordan Boyer hit a three-run RBI triple for Wichita State in the seventh inning. Wichita State starter Tommy Barnhouse struck out six through 4.1 innings, scattering three runs on five hits for the no decision.
Tulane 6, USF 4
After giving up four runs in the sixth inning, Tulane held off USF to complete a weekend sweep of the Bulls with a 6-4 win, extending its winnings streak to six games. Justin Campbell gave Tulane three solid innings in relief to close the game, striking out six, while allowing no hits, no runs and walking one. He picked up his second save of the season. The Green Wave struck for three runs in the first two innings. Luke Glancy, Frankie Niemann and Sal Gozzo each tallied RBIs for Tulane during that span. Niemann finished the day with three RBIs after driving in two more runs in the fifth frame with a double. Eight Green Wave batters recorded at least one base knock. Tulane starter Chase Solesky fanned six through 5.1 innings of work, bringing a one-hitter into the sixth inning before running into trouble.
Jake Sullivan, Chris Chatfield and Garrett Zech each drove in runs during USF’s sixth-inning four-run rally. Five of the Bulls’ eight hits on the day came during that frame. Nelson Alvarez pitched the final 2.2 scoreless innings for USF, striking out three batters.
