Highlights
Several team titles, along with 81 event wins and numerous trips to the podium highlighted the action for The American’s 11 track and field programs that competed over the weekend. In total, the conference combined for 10 top-20 marks in the NCAA this season last week.

Houston collected 24 top-three finishes and eight event titles at the Texas A&M Invitational over the weekend. On Friday, Priscilla Adejokun finished first in the hammer throw with a personal record of 196-1 (59.77m), while Trumaine Jefferson finished on top in long jump with a wind-aided mark of 25-1.75 (7.66m) to move to No. 3 in The American and No. 22 in the nation.

The Cougars won six more events Saturday. Hailey Pollard finished on top in the discus throw with a PR of 159-5.00 (48.61m). Naomi Taylor finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 13.25 seconds. Quivell Jordan also came in the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.20 seconds. Mario Burke finished in the No. 1 spot in the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.24 seconds. Burke also claimed the 200-meter dash win with a time of 21.13 seconds. Houston swept the 100m as Essance Sample claimed the women's win in a time of 11.54 seconds.

UCF posted personal or season bests in five track events, while a pair of long jumpers and throwers finished in the top 10 at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. Shian Hyde and Ciara Holback posted the top-two fastest times on the American Athletic Conference performance list in the 100-meter dash. Hyde, who finished second in the event, turned in a season-best time of 11.37 seconds, while Holback clocked 11.44 seconds.

Cincinnati’s team of Faith Banks, Haisha Bisiolu, Tiona Lattimore and Caisja Chandler smashed the Bearcats’ record in the 4x200-meter relay, running 1:34.38 to win the race at the  2019 Tennessee Relays. The Bearcats got an event win from senior Annette Echikunwoke in the hammer throw as she outdistanced the field with a best toss of 63.14m to win an event for the second-straight week. Sam Meece was the top performer for the men as he placed fourth overall in the discus with a best of 50.47m (165-07).

UConn hosted the Northeast Challenge Saturday, as the Huskies swept the team titles. The women’s team won with 198.33 points, while the men’s team posted 164 points for first place. On the men’s side, the Huskies crushed the 10-team field and won six individual titles in the process. Malik Snead, the current conference leader in the triple jump, grabbed his second win of the spring and also posted his best jump this season. Snead bested the field with a leap of 15.66 meters, good for ranking 18th nationally.

The women’s team saw five school records fall in the victory with  Emma Chee (pole vault), Taylor Woods (long jump), Kat Surin (400m), and Chanell Botsis (hammer throw) each setting a new mark with their first-place finishes. The women also earned four more first-place finishes. Surin’s 400-meter dash time of 52.70 seconds leads The American and ranks 14th nationally. Woods’ also shot atop the league’s performance list with her top jump of 6.34 meters, good for ranking 13th in the nation. Susan Aneno posted one of the top performances of the day for the Huskies, winning the 800-meter run in 2:05.16, which is tied for 17th nationally.

ECU split its squad to compete in a pair of meets over the weekend – the Pickle Field Day Relays at Mount Olive College and the Aggie Invitational at North Carolina A&T State University. In Mount Olive, Lindsay Yentz captured the 800-meter run in a time of 2:24.32. Rebecca Fleischer also won her event, crossing the finish line in the 5,000-meter run in 19:19.22. Over in Greensboro, Bria Stith posted a mark of 12.05 meters in the triple jump to claim first place.

Memphis’ Davon DeMoss hit his stride with two titles to lead the Tigers at the 2019 Crimson Tide Invite. DeMoss blasted out of the gates Friday with crowns in the men's 100 meters (10.25 seconds) and the men's 4x100m (39.69 seconds) meter relay. DeMoss' 100m time was a Crimson Tide Invite meet record. The Tigers posted eight top-three performances on the weekend.

Chelsea Francis set a school record in the 100-meter dash, and USF captured 11 individual titles over the weekend at the UIW Invitational. Francis won the 100 meters by turning in a time of 11.41 seconds. On Friday, Stephanie Lambeth won the pole. Taquon Terry placed first in the long jump. Mitchell Mueller won the pole vault with a height of 15-11.00 for the men, and Bruce Robinson earned the crown in the hammer throw. On Saturday, Brittany Krug claimed the title in the javelin throw, and Kirby Powers won the high jump. For the men, Maurice Nock won the 200 meters with a time of 20.82 seconds, while Randall Ceneus captured the title in the 400 meters. Melvin Briley turned in a distance of 48-04.50 en route to winning the triple jump. Hunter Hummel won the discus throw.

Temple sent athletes to compete at both the Rider Invite and Bucknell Outdoor Classic. The Owls were highlighted by a new school record in the 1,500-meter run from junior Millie Howard at Bucknell, and four gold medals on the day at the Rider Invite from freshman Marissa White (400m), senior Ashton Dunkley (800m), sophomore Aisha Brown (high jump) and the 4x400m relay. Howard’s 1,500m time of 4:16.81 ranks fifth in the NCAA this season.

Tulane’s women’s team won the Cole-Lancon Conference Challenge at the Cajuns' Track Complex on Saturday. The Green Wave finished with 199 team points, more than 45 points higher than second-place Louisiana. The Green Wave women picked up their victory thanks to 10 first-place finishes in the meet's 18 total events. Trina Malej was a double-winner, posting victories in the long and triple jumps. Aldrianna Dupree also won a pair of events, coming out on top in the 100-and-200-meter dashes. Tom Coe won the 1,500-meter title for the men with a time of 4:06.85.

Tulsa’s Carsyn Spurgeon leapt into the record books with a school record long jump of 5.99m/19-8 feet to take first at the John McDonnell Invitational on Friday. Including Spurgeon's gold, the Golden Hurricane notched three event wins in the team's showing on John McDonnell Field at the two-day Arkansas meet. It was a Tulsa sweep in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as Reed Sahadevan brought home the gold in 9:27.82, while Katharina Pesendorfer also earned a personal record for first place in 10:37.46.

Wichita State completed a dominating effort at the four-day-long K.T. Woodman Classic. Kendra Henry overcame a near 300-point deficit to win the K.T. Woodman Classic heptathlon, while Ben Johnson won the decathlon, Thursday afternoon. Aaron True won the javelin throw with the fifth-longest distance in the NCAA (72.45 meters). On Friday, the Shockers won seven more individual events before winning 14 of 30 events held on the final day of competition. Wichita State found most of its success on the track winning 10 events Saturday.
