Highlights:
It was a 6-0 Tuesday sweep for American Athletic Conference baseball teams, as the conference continues its strong nonconference April slate, improving to 17-3 against other leagues this month. UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, No. 8 ECU, Houston and Tulane each picked up wins. American teams won five of their six Tuesday games on the road. Overall, The American improved to 132-82 (.617) in nonconference action this year. The midweek schedule continues Wednesday with Cincinnati, UConn, USF and Wichita State in action before conference play resumes over the weekend.
 
UConn 11, Bryant 6 (8)
UConn captured an 11-6 road win at Bryant in a game shortened due to darkness on Tuesday afternoon at Conaty Park. The Huskies plated three runs in the top of the eighth inning to extend their lead to 11-6 before the game was called. Christian Fedko went 2-3 with a pair of doubles in the contest. The sophomore delivered an RBI double in the fourth and followed it up with a two-run double in the fifth inning. Anthony Prato gave UConn the lead for good in the fifth with a two-run single into left field. Mike Woodworth had a great day at the plate with three hits and three runs scored. Every starter in the UConn order recorded at least a hit in the victory. Chris Winkel recorded a hit to extend his streak to a team-high 12 games. UConn is set to take on Northeastern on Wednesday at J.O. Christian Field at 3 p.m. ET.
 
No. 8 ECU 9, UNCW 1
ECU scored in all but three innings on the way to a 9-1 win at UNC Wilmington to continue a nine-game road trip. The Pirates will return to action this weekend when they travel to the West Coast to take on No. 1 UCLA. Seven different ECU hitters drove in a run, as Thomas Francisco (2-for-2) and Turner Brown (2-for-5) each posted multiple hits. Starter Trey Benton picked up the win after striking out six through the 2.2 innings of work. He scattered one run on four hits, issuing no walks. The Pirates used five arms out of the bullpen, as their relievers combined for six shutout frames and eight strikeouts, scattering two hits and a walk. Sam Lanier and Cam Colmore each fanned four batters during their outings in relief.
 
Cincinnati 2, Xavier 1
Eric Santiago went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored the game-winning run on a passed ball, as Cincinnati defeated crosstown rival Xavier 2-1 on the first day of the Joe Nuxhall Classic. The Bearcats punched their ticket to the championship game Wednesday where they will face Miami (Ohio) at 6:30 p.m. ET. Jace Mercer also had a two-hit game, including Cincinnati’s sole RBI single of the day. Starter David Orndorff fanned six through 6.0 innings of work, giving up no walks while surrendering only one run on three hits. Drake Batcho (2.0 IP) and Nathan Moore (1.0 IP) combined for three shutout frames to close-out the win, scattering three hits out of the bullpen.
 
UCF 8, Jacksonville 2
UCF improved to 9-0 in midweek games this year after using a late rally to push past Jacksonville 8-2 on the road. Tied at 2-2, UCF’s Chandler Robertson scored on a wild pitch in the seventh before Matthew Mika hit a solo homer in the eighth. Tyler Osik capped the scoring for the Knights with a grand slam in the top of the ninth. Eight different UCF hitters registered at least one base knock, led by Dallas Beaver who went 3-for-5 with a double. Mika ended the night with two hits, while Dalton Wingo recorded a pair of RBIs. The Knights’ bullpen scattered four hits and three walks through the final five frames. UCF returns to American play this weekend when it hits the road for a three-game series at Cincinnati starting Friday.
 
Tulane 15, Southeastern Louisiana 14
Tulane pounded-out 19 hits and five home runs, using a pair of late three-run home runs to clinch a 15-14 slugfest win at Southeastern Louisiana. Four Green Wave batters registered multiple hits. Luke Glancy went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, three runs scored and two home runs. His second homer of the night—a three-run shot in the eighth inning ended up bringing home the game-winning run. Trevor Jensen went 4-for-6 out of the leadoff spot, while Kody Hoese went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs scored and his nation-leading 17th home run of the season. Frankie Niemann chipped in with four RBIs, two hits and a homer. Tulane scored seven runs in the second inning and rallied for three runs in both the seventh and eighth frames. The Green Wave will host USF in a three-game American series this weekend.
 
Houston 12, Sam Houston State 7
Houston used a seven-run rally in the second inning on the way to capturing the 2019 Don Sanders Cup with a 12-7 win at Sam Houston State in Game 2 of the season series. The Cougars have won five-straight nonconference games, which includes defeating Sam Houston State in Game 1 of the three-game set, 2-1 back in March. Houston recorded 16 hits with seven going for extra bases, including four home runs. Six Cougars had a multi-hit game, as eight drove in at least one run. Jared Triolo went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, two RBIs, a double and a home run. Tyler Bielamowicz went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a homer. David Roedahl and Fred Villarreal combined for 4.1 shutout innings in relief, scattering three hits and one walk. Houston will stay on the road this weekend when it heads to Wichita State for a three-game conference series.
