Miami (Ohio) 7, Cincinnati 6 (10)
For the second time this year, nine innings wasn’t enough in a battle between Miami (Ohio) and Cincinnati. In the third meeting of the season between the Bearcats and Redhawks, Miami outlasted Cincinnati 7-6 in 10 innings. The Bearcats led before the home team tied it in the fifth. Joey Wiemer made a running catch on the warning track to send the game to extras then started off the 10th frame with a double, but it was Miami who was able to score the game's final run via a walk-off homer. At the plate, Griffin Merritt went 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead the Bearcats. Cincinnati resumes American play with a three-game series at Memphis this weekend.
Florida 7, USF 3
USF made it 6-3 in the top of the eighth, but got no closer, as Florida came out on top in a 7-3 decision in Gainesville, Fla., Tuesday night. The Gators jumped out to a 5-0 lead, scoring in three of the first five innings and refused to look back from there. USF senior Joe Genord tallied his team-high 52nd RBI in the game, driving in a pair of runs. He also recorded his 14th double, extending his on-base streak to 19 games. Jake Sullivan and Chris Chatfield each had two hits. The Bulls are at UConn for their last three road games of the year.
UCF 6, Bethune-Cookman 5
UCF completed a season sweep of Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night at John Euliano Park with a 6-5 win. After the Knights surrendered five unearned runs in the second inning, UCF rallied late behind a five-run eighth to win the game. The Knights opened the eighth with a pair of walks and a single by Tyler Osik. Brandon Hernandez took a walk to cut the deficit down to three, before Chandler Robertson drove a pinch-hit RBI single to left. Down by two with the bases loaded, rookie Ben McCabe took the first pitch he saw to the wall in left center for a bases-clearing double to give the Black and Gold the lead for good. Kyle Kemp fired a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the win and earn his fourth save of the year. UCF will wrap up the two-game week tomorrow night at No. 17 Miami (Fla.).
Memphis 11, Arkansas Pine Bluff 10
Memphis began an eventful midweek slate with an 11-10 win against Arkansas Pine Bluff Tuesday night at FedExPark. Eight of the Tigers' nine starters in the lineup recorded at least one hit, with four players registering multiple hits. Payton Marshall led all batters with a 3-for-4 outing, including an RBI double in the sixth. Hunter Goodman, Nick Vaage and Evan Bell drove in multiple runs and each posted an extra-base hit. Goodman launched his 11th home run of the season in the second frame. The Tigers scored seven runs in the first three innings and held off a late rally from the away team. Memphis will return to the diamond Wednesday as the Tigers visit No. 5 Mississippi State.
Nicholls 5, Tulane 3
A three-run seventh inning doomed the Green Wave, as Tulane took a 5-3 loss to Nicholls Tuesday night. Jonathon Artigues was the only Tulane player to earn multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with a single and team-leading fifth triple of the season. The two teams battled to a tie and a pair of lead changes through the first six innings. Tulane travels to Houston for a three-game set this weekend.
Wichita State 9, Missouri State 4 (10)
Wichita State scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning to break a 4-4 tie and defeat Missouri State 9-4 on the road. Senior Luke Ritter went 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs, while sophomore Paxton Wallace added a 2-for-5 performance with a home run, double, three RBIs and two runs scored, pacing the Shockers at the plate. Mitchell Walters earned the victory on the mound after allowing no earned runs on just one hit with two strikeouts and two walks in the ninth and 10th innings. Wallace and Ritter hit late solo homers to tie the game at 4-4 and bring it to extra innings. Walters tallied back-to-back punch outs to get Wichita State out of a bases loaded jam before the offense used a five-run rally in the 10th inning to clinch the win. Wichita State will welcome No. 8 ECU to Eck Stadium for a three-game American series this weekend.
