East Carolina claimed its fifth straight match, improving to 9-1 on the season with a four-set triumph against NC Central. The Pirates dropped the Lady Eagles by a final tally of 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17 in Greenville, North Carolina.
 
ECU improved to 4-0 in 2019 inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum, keeping its momentum going from a three-match sweep of the Pirate Invitational last weekend. The Pirates also improved to 2-1 against fellow North Carolina foes with the victory against NC Central.
 
Reigning American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Brandee Markwith paced all players with 23 digs in the win for ECU, while Sydney Kleinman posted a team-high 16 kills. Bri Wood (15 kills and 16 digs) and Shelby Martin (21 assists and 11 digs) logged double-doubles for the triumphant Pirates, and Toya Osuegbu hit at a program record .833 clip for a single match with 10 kills.
 
USF 3, Jacksonville 2 (14-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-14, 15-6)
 
USF ended a three-match losing streak with a spirited rally against Jacksonville, with the Bulls battling back from a 2-1 disadvantage to defeat the Dolphins in five sets (14-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-14, 15-6) in Tampa, Florida.
 
Jac’cara Walker led USF with 16 kills and 14 digs, while Lindsey Pliapol added 11 kills and a team-high 21 digs for an additional double-double in the win for the Bulls. Nicole Legg hit an impressive .857 for the contest to notch 12 kills, and Jac St. Cin chipped in 10 kills of her own for USF.
 
Houston Baptist 3, Houston 1 (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22)
 
Houston dropped a four-set decision to crosstown foe Houston Baptist, falling 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22 at Houston Baptist’s Sharp Gym.
 
Katie Karbo enjoyed another standout showing for the Cougars with 31 digs and no reception errors. Abbie Jackson and Megan Duncan tied for the team lead with nine kills for Houston, and Abby Irvine extended her conference lead in assists for the season with 36 helpers in the loss.
