UCF's Gabriel, Memphis' White, Temple's Ebiketie, SMU's Naggar Earn Weekly Football Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the seventh week of the 2020 season.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Dillon Gabriel • UCF • So. • QB • Mililani, Hawaii
Gabriel set American Athletic Conference single-game records for passing yards and total offense in the Knights’ 50-49 setback to Memphis. He completed 35 of 49 passes for 601 yards and five touchdowns, adding 49 rushing yards and another TD to account for 650 yards of total offense. His 601 passing yards broke the previous conference mark of 557, set by Cincinnati’s Hayden Moore against Memphis in 2015, while his 650 yards of offense bettered the old mark of 635, set by SMU’s Garrett Gilbert against Temple in 2013. Gabriel leads all NCAA FBS players with 1,756 passing yards in 2020.

White, who was chosen as the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, led Memphis to a 50-49 win against UCF as the Tigers overcame a 21-point second-half deficit for their largest come-from-behind win in program history. White completed 34 of 50 passes for a career-high and school-record 486 yards and six touchdowns, while he also had 30 rushing yards with another score, tying The American’s single-game record with seven total touchdowns. White threw two touchdown passes in the final 3:41 of the fourth quarter, including the game-winning TD with 1:08 left to help Memphis end a 13-game series slide against the Knights.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arnold Ebiketie • Temple • Jr. • DE • Silver Spring, Md.
Ebiketie keyed Temple’s 39-37 win against USF, giving the Owls their first win of the 2020 season. Ebiketie finished with six tackles, including a sack and 3.5 tackles for loss, and delivered the biggest defensive play of the game when he returned a fourth-quarter fumble 11 yards for a touchdown, giving Temple a lead it would not relinquish.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Naggar • SMU • Sr. • K • Arlington, Texas
Naggar scored 13 points, including the game-winning field goal in overtime, to help SMU to a 37-34 win at Tulane. Naggar made field goals of 48, 33 and 34 yards and was 4-for-4 on PATs to help the Mustangs improve to 5-0 in 2020..

Rushed for a career-high 157 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in a 27-23 win at East Carolina.

Completed 23 of 37 passes for 384 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-34 win at Tulane.

Had eight catches for a game-high 81 yards, including seven receptions that went for first downs and a 13-yard touchdown that accounted for the winning margin in a 39-37 win against USF.
