The American Today: Four Games Against Top-20 Teams Await The American's Women's Lacrosse Teams

02.10.20

American Athletic Conference teams were a combined 4-2 in the opening weekend of the college lacrosse season as Florida, Temple, Vanderbilt and ECU all came away with wins to start the year.

The schedule ramps up considerably in Week 2 as four games against nationally ranked oppoents await The American’s members this week.

The ledger begins Wednesday as UConn gets its 2020 season underway with a 3 p.m. ET matchup against Fairfield, while Temple looks for a 2-0 start as the Owls host Rutgers.

The lone game on Friday’s schedule has Cincinnati headed to Marquette in search of its first win. The Bearcats look to bounce back from a season-opening setback to Louisville.

Saturday’s slate is headlined by a pair of games against top-five opponents. Florida, which moved up to No. 12 in the IWLCA rankings following a season-opening win against Colorado, plays the second of three straight games against ranked teams with Saturday’s match at No. 1/2 Maryland.

Temple will host No. 5 Princeton as the Owls continue a six-game homestand to start the year, while ECU goes for a second straight win as the Pirates face Wofford in their home-opener.

Two more games against ranked teams are set for Sunday. Vanderbilt, which won its season-opener against 2019 Northeast Conference champion Wagner, is back on the road as the Commodores face ACC runner-up Boston College, which is ranked No. 14. UConn, meanwhile, takes to the road to face No. 20 James Madison.
