American Teams Pick Up Six Wins Sunday

UConn 9, No. 1 Michigan 2 - Box Score
The UConn baseball team captured a series win against Michigan, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon from the Mets Spring Training Complex. It is the first time in program history that the Huskies have earned a series win against the No. 1 team in the country. Michigan is ranked No. 1 in the Baseball America national poll.

Starting pitcher Nick Krauth set the tone for the Huskies with 5.0 strong innings on the bump. The right-hander struck out the side in the fourth after UConn took an early 2-0 advantage.

UConn was clutch at the plate with two outs, plating seven of its nine runs with two down. The Huskies struck first in the fourth with back-to-back RBI doubles from Kyler Fedko and Paul Gozzo.

No. 16 ECU 10, Georgia Southern 2 (Game 2) - Box Score
Sixteenth-ranked East Carolina scored four runs in the first and six in the third defeating Georgia Southern 10-2 in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the series sweep the Pirates improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 3-4.
 
After winning the first game of the day 3-2, ECU wasted little time in jumping out to a lead as it scored four runs in the first frame, which was highlighted by Bryson Worrell's three-run homer. With one away in the home half of the frame, Zach Agnos and Alec Burleson collected consecutive singles and Thomas Francisco plated the first run (Agnos) with a base knock through the right side. Worrell cleared the bases with a blast to right field, his first of the season for a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
 
Jake Kuchmaner (2-0) earned the win tossing three scoreless frames allowing three this and striking out two on a predetermined pitch count.

In game one, Thomas Francisco's first home run of the season, a two-run shot, gave ECU an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. With two away, Burleson reached on an infield single to short and trotted home on Francisco's shot to right field.
 
C.J. Mayhue (1-0) picked up his first career win tossing two scoreless innings of relief allowing a pair of walks and striking out three.

UCF 12, No. 8 Auburn 2 - Box Score
UCF picked up its second weekend sweep of the season, this time over No. 8 Auburn on the road with a 12-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. The three-game sweep of the Tigers was the first sweep of a ranked SEC opponent since the Knights swept No. 11 Auburn in 2011 at home.

Tom Josten opened the scoring for the Black and Gold, sending a two-run no-doubter over the rightfield wall in the third inning. Three batters later, Pablo Ruiz extended the lead with a three-run blast, his first homer of the 2020 campaign.

Auburn answered with a run of their own before starting pitcher Joe Sheridan got himself out of the jam with an inning-ending double play. The Knights' opened the floodgates in the fifth inning, as they strung together four hits – all singles, to plate three runs in the inning to push the score to 8-1 through five innings.

Memphis 9, Dayton 2 - Box Score
Memphis completed a three-game sweep of Dayton on Sunday afternoon in a rain-condensed, seven-inning 9-2 victory at FedExPark.
 
At the plate, the Tigers struck for four runs in the second inning and three in the third to build an early cushion, while another strong pitching performance kept Dayton at bay.
 
Drawing his second start of the season, freshman Blake Wimberley scattered three hits and an earned run across four innings of work. The Eads, Tenn., native, whose brother Bailey Wimberley earned the win on the mound on Friday, also struck out six Dayton batters in his first career victory.

Tulane 6, No. 24 Cal State Fullerton 4 (13 innings) - Box Score
Tulane improved to 6-1 on the season and earned the series win at No. 24 Cal State Fullerton with a 6-4 win in 13 innings. The two squads went scoreless for eight innings after being tied, 3-3, in the fourth inning. 

Ethan Groff and Grant Mathews each recorded three hits, while Mathews and Trevor Minder both scored two runs. Luke Jannetta (2-0) pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. 

Northeastern 7, USF 5 - Box Score
USF fell to Northeastern in the series finale Sunday afternoon, 7-5. The Bulls (2-6) jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Julio Cortez (Weston, Fla.) drove in the first run of the game for the Bulls, drawing a walk with the bases loaded. Carmine Lane (Lake Placid, Fla.) would follow with a two-run double to left field, scoring JD Dutka (Suwanee, Ga.) and Dylan Buck (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.).
 
Northeastern (3-3) answered back, scoring six runs through the next four innings to lead, 7-3. USF fought back with a late rally in the bottom of the ninth. After Lane doubled to left center, Daniel Cantu (Saint Johns, Fla.) would drive in the first run of his career with a double down the right field line. Cantu would come in to score to cut the Husky lead to two runs off an error at short.

No. 12 Florida State 10, Cincinnati 1 - Box Score
Cincinnati gave up one big inning to lose 10-1 at No. 12 Florida State on Sunday afternoon in the series finale. The Bearcats outhit the Seminoles 25-24 in the series and committed just three errors to the home team's ten. 
 
Joey Bellini continued to lead the team in hitting as he finished 2-for-3 with a double. Griffin Merritt homered in his second-straight game and also had a single. With the scored tied, 1-1, Florida State broke open the game by scoring seven in the bottom of the fourth.

No. 1 Texas Tech 3, Houston 2 (10 innings) - Box Score
In the final game of the Round Rock Classic, Houston fell to Texas Tech, 3-2, in 10 innings. Texas Tech is ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA national polls. 

Both teams scored a run in the first inning before the Cougars (2-4) took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. The Red Raiders (6-1) tied the game in the fifth before breaking the deadlock in the bottom of the 10th inning.
