UCF Earns Series Win over No. 8 Auburn in Saturday Action

Wichita State 9, Texas Southern 1 (Game 2) - Box Score
Wichita State completed a three-game, series sweep of the Texas Southern Tigers with a pair of victories in a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 22, at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field. The Shockers won game one, 7-2, before rolling to a 9-1 triumph in the nightcap.
 
Junior Garrett Kocis and freshman Cade Clemons paced the Shockers at the plate on the day. Kocis, who hails from Omaha, Neb., had a hit and pair of RBI in game one before putting on a hitting clinic in game two, going a career-best 3-for-4 with a double, triple, homer, two runs scored and a career-high six RBI. It was the most RBI in a single game since Alec Bohm drove in six in March, 2018, at ECU. A native of Lee's Summit, Mo., Clemons posted two hits and two RBI in the first game of the twin bill, and tallied his first collegiate home run.
 
Junior reliever and Wichita native Aaron Bechtel (1-0) earned his first win on the mound as a Shocker in game one, tossing 2 1/3 innings and allowing no earned runs on no hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Right-handed starter Preston Snavely (1-1), a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., secured the victory on the rubber in the nightcap, throwing seven innings and allowing no earned runs on two hits with two walks and nine Ks. 

UCF 7, No. 8 Auburn 3 - Box Score
Baseball earned the series win over No. 8 Auburn Saturday afternoon, taking down the Tigers 7-3. The win marked the first road-series win over a ranked SEC opponent since sweeping No. 11 Alabama in 2001.

The Tigers opened the scoring by banging a triple off the centerfield wall to drive in Ward, who picked up their first hit of the game. Auburn's lead wouldn't last long as Jordan Rathbone teed off on the first pitch he saw, putting it over the leftfield wall to drive in Tom Josten, who walked on four straight balls an at-bat prior.

The Knights' offense took off in the sixth inning, posting four runs on four hits and a defensive error. Dalton Wingo got it started with an RBI single, who was driven in by Tom Josten picking up his third double of the year. Jordan Rathbone went back to back with Josten, doubling to right field to pick up his third RBI of the game. Rathbone later came around to score thanks to a Nick Romano single, putting UCF on top 6-1 before the end of the inning.

No. 16 ECU 3, Georgia Southern 0 - Box Score
Alec Burleson tossed a career-high 8.0 scoreless innings and drove in a run helping No. 16 East Carolina to a 3-0 win over Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the win the Pirates improve to 4-1 while the Eagles drop to 3-2 on the young season.
 
Burleson (1-0) allowed just two runners to reach base (fourth and seventh innings) both on singles. The lefty, who fanned seven batters, also didn't allow a runner to reach second base and got some great glove work behind him thanks to a 6-5-3 double play in the fourth. Matt Bridges came in and got his first save of the season working a scoreless ninth allowing a hit and walking one to preserve the shutout.
 
Jordan Jackson (1-1) took the loss giving up all three runs (all earned) on four hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts in five innings. Jake Martin (1.1 IP, 3 Hs) and Griffin Davis (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 K) worked the final four frames and limiting ECU's offense to just three runs on the day.
 
ECU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead pushing a pair of runners across in the opening frame. Burleson's RBI double down the left field line scored Lane Hoover, who reached on an infield single and stole second base before crossing home. Two batters later, Bryson Worrell doubled down the right field line plating Burleson.

Memphis 3, Dayton 2 - Box Score
A two-run ninth inning capped a come-from-behind walk off win for Memphis as the Tigers took the series against Dayton with a 3-2 victory on Saturday at FedExPark.
 
Trailing 2-1 in the final frame, junior Ian Bibiloni led off the inning with a solo home run to left-centerfield to tie the game. Later in the inning, freshman Jaylen Wilbon sped home after a wild pitch to complete the comeback victory.

Northeastern 10, USF 0 (Game 1) - Box Score
Northeastern 2, USF 0 (Game 2) - Box Score
USF fell to Northeastern in a doubleheader Saturday, 10-0 and 2-0. The Bulls (2-5) fell behind to the Huskies (2-3), 1-0, in the first. Northeastern then plated five runs in the fifth to jump out to a demanding lead in the first game of the doubleheader.
 
USF loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the sixth, but failed to score. The Bulls finished with nine runners left on base. USF drew five walks throughout the first game. Collin Sullivan (Randolph, Mass.) suffered the loss on the hill for the Bulls allowing four runs on seven hits through 4.1 innings.
 
It was a pitcher's duel in the second game, with both starters throwing over seven innings. Jack Jasiak (Spring Hill, Fla.) finished with 11 strikeouts through 7.1 innings. The freshman right-hander has a combined 20 strikeouts through two starts in the season.

No. 12 Florida State 10, Cincinnati 5 - Box Score
Cincinnati went back-and-forth with No. 12 Florida State for most of the day Saturday until the Seminoles were able to pull out the 10-5 win. Jeremy Johnson went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI, while Joey Bellini and Wyatt Stapp both finished 2-for-5 with a run scored. 

The Bearcats scored a pair of runs in the second and fifth innings to take the lead, but the Seminoles took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, 5-4, and didn't look back.

(rv) Tennessee 8, Houston 4 - Box Score
Houston fell 8-4 to Tennessee as part of the inaugural Round Rock Classic on Saturday afternoon at Dell Diamond. With the decision, the Cougars fall to 2-3 on the season, while the Volunteers remain undefeated and improve to 6-0.

Senior southpaw Clay Aguilar went 5.1 innings in a no-decision. After being taxed for three runs in the opening frame, Aguilar bounced back with four scoreless innings before handing off the ball to Bayless in the sixth.

The Cougars took the lead in the sixth. Senior Lael Lockhart Jr. opened the bottom frame with a pinch-hit single up the middle. Senior left fielder Blake Way advanced Lockhart Jr. with a sac, before he came home on a throwing error after an infield single from redshirt sophomore third baseman Ian McMillan. The Volunteers regained the lead on a bases-clearing double in the seventh.

No. 1 Michigan 14, UConn 2 - Box Score
UConn dropped the middle game of its series to No. 1/9 Michigan, 14-2, on Saturday afternoon from practice field #5 at the Mets Spring Training Complex.

The Huskies jumped out to an early lead after Kyler Fedko tripled down the right field line on the 10th pitch of his at-bat. His older brother, Christian, followed with an RBI single to put UConn up, 1-0. It wasn't the Huskies day from that point forward. The Wolverines scored 14 runs on 14 hits including a seven-run frame in the fourth.

No. 24 Cal State Fullerton 7, Tulane 5 - Box Score
Tulane battled back from a 3-0 deficit to take the lead by scoring four runs over two innings, but the Cal State Fullerton Titans struck the biggest blow with a four-run eighth and went on to defeat the Green Wave 7-5 Saturday night at Goodwin Field.
 
After spotting the Titans (3-3) three runs over the course of the first three innings, Tulane (5-1) was able to counter by taking advantage of Fullerton miscues late to rally and take the lead by scoring two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Six outs away from the victory, the Titans got to the Green Wave in the eighth and plated four runs and sent 10 batters to the plate to take the lead for good and hold on in the ninth for the win.
 
Tulane produced its five runs on seven hits, paced by sophomore Hudson Haskin who drove in three runs on the night on his two hits. Trevor Minder belted his first home run of the season, while Ty Johnson earned his second triple of the season in the contest.
