Tulane's Hightower, Memphis' Achiuwa Earn Men's Basketball Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly men’s basketball honors for Feb. 24.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK                 
Teshaun Hightower, Jr., G, Tulane
Hightower helped lead the Green Wave to a 2-0 week in conference play by averaging 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. The junior recorded 26 points and nine rebounds against SMU on Wednesday (Feb. 19) and added 18 points against UCF in a come-from-behind victory over UCF on Saturday (Feb. 22).
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Precious Achiuwa, F, Memphis
Achiuwa paced the Tigers to a 2-0 week by averaging 17.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting 69.2 percent from the field. He had 24 points and 12 rebounds against ECU for his 15th double-double of the season, most in The American, tied for eighth in the country and first in the nation amongst freshmen.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
 
Trevon Scott, R-Sr., F, Cincinnati
Scott averaged 15.0 points and 16.0 rebounds for the Bearcats in a 1-1 week. He had 22 points and conference season-high 21 rebounds against UCF.
 
Christian Vital, Sr., G, UConn
Leading the Huskies to a 1-1 week, Vital averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game, all while becoming The American’s all-time leader in career 3-point field goals made (253).
 
Tony Johnson Jr., Fr., G, UCF
Johnson Jr. led the Knights to their first ever win at Cincinnati and averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
 
Jayden Gardner, So., F, ECU
Gardner averaged 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games for the Pirates, including a 29-point, 13-rebound effort in a comeback win over Temple.
 
Caleb Mills, R-Fr., G, Houston
Mills produced a pair of 20-plus point performances, averaging 24.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Cougars.
